Why do u think Black female artists can't score top 10 hit?
I'm not trying to make it a race thing but I've noticed that majority of the females with top ten hits are white (well besides Rihanna). Now I understand that R&B was more prevalent back in 00-06 when hip-hop and R&B dominated the industry - but artists like Kelis, Monica, Ashanti, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, etc should be able to get a hit. Most of them have already made the translation to dance music while others are still doing R&B. Has the digital age made it ok for race to play a part in the top 10 charts? I know it may seem like not a big deal - but to me it somewhat is because this hasn't happen in the industry. Even in the 60s u had Aretha and Dionne w a few more in the top 10 of Hot 100 & that was during the time where racism was at an all-time high - now its like you have to be white to even get in top 20. I know some may bring up Kelly Rowland's Motivation but that hit was pretty minor and was saved by Lil Wayne. Are these women doing something wrong image, music, etc wise? Or is it because of their team or lack of work ethics? With all that being said - why do u think black female artists can't score a top ten hit on Hot 100?
Well, yeah she is an exception but there was more than just two females back in 2000. Remember Mya, Monica, Brandy, Ashanti, Beyonce, etc ruling the charts. Now its the same two Rihanna and Nicki. There isn't any diversity at all
Its just sad to me when I think about it
Because hip r&b is kinda 2000 and late. I a few years ago black chicks were on top of billboard all the time and the opposite argument could have been made. Nicki Minaj is the first black chick doing teeny bop pop music which has previously been less of a black thing. Nicki not getting #1 on billboard has nothing to do with her skin but more with her likeability.
Also Kelis's Flesh Tone was not mainstream at all..it was too hard and not soft or cute like the current pop songs from the Katys or Nickis.
The public is forever going to have racist in the back of there mind
Just rihanna dread proved that racism is still very present in everyone mind
and also like 80% of the industry is white VS 20% other's (black, latino etc) It's normal we are going to see alot more white people topping the chart
Because Rihanna and Nicki are the only black artists making electro-pop songs right now, the most prominent genre on the Hot 100 right now.
That is true but now all R&B ladies are starting to do Electro-pop but I don't think it will make it in top 10. I mean Kelis and Cassie both had awesome records but failed to make it in the top 10? I really think iTunes buyers are somewhat racist?

Umm Rihanna is doing pop music and she was here before Nicki,so no Nicki aint the 1st "black chick" to be doing pop music

They aren't racist, they have a stigma. They will forever be associated with that music. Rihanna was doing electro before it was really popular, so she was ahead of the trend.

I have to disagree because the charts back in 2000 - though it was dominated by black females still had more diversity than today. Now its just sad when I look at Billboard. Black artists can't stay true to their artistic vision without selling out. And I think even if they did do electro-pop they would get to top 10 because the sound in industry is always changing. Yeah, Kelis wasn't mainstream but Acapella could've been a hit, the sound was made for top 10 imo.

What about Kelly Rowland and Kelis? And let's not act like female black artists were huge before electro-pop songs arrived besides Rihanna and Beyoncé. Rihanna went top 10 with Cheers and #1 with What's My Name.
Whitney Houston: 11 No 1's
Rihanna: 11 No 1's
Janet Jackson: 10 No 1's
Beyonce: 5 No 1's
And there have been countless other black females from Aretha Franklin through Patti LaBelle, Tina Turner, Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Toni Braxton etc. who have had number ones, let alone top 10 hits.
So historically there has been no problem. I believe as others have said that it's just due to the prevalent musical style dominating today's charts rather than any race issue.
