"Songs of 2012 I Care to Write About" by Canonical Ensemble
I really like reading through the "Best of" threads, but when it comes to writing it myself I feel less than motivated to keep it all organised and consistent.
However, I don't want to let years and years passing by without something to remember on pop scene. So, I think starting writing whatever I can remember and care enough to write about should be a good idea! The songs are not in quality- nor success-wise orders, but in the order of my recognition for the passing years.
As I'm writing to this line, my motivation to write has declined a bit already. So, let's get started before I run out of it.
And hopefully by the time this year-end list fest is over, I will make it through 10+ songs.
Song No.001
"We Found Love" - Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris
Well, it did debut in October 2011, but as Rihanna is trying to convince us this is still her current single throughout this year, then why shouldn't we believe her?
What I used to have problems with Rihanna, her vocals, has been handled very neatly in this song. The musical part is absolutely amazing. The gravity reduced a bit as the climax synth bangs the speaker. Absolutely one of the greatest clubbing song in many years.
Kinda tired of writing now. I'll have a rest a bit and reveal the No.002 later tonight.
This song had me digging into other Brazilian artists for days. This light, dance-y, live-played song is very catchy and addicted without getting me understanding a word in it.
The video strangely amplifies the brilliance of this song even more. I love the sound quality. I love the venue it situated. I love his (kinda repetitive) dance. But out of all, what I LOVE THE MOST in the video is the itchiness in the eyes, the gestures and the dances of those girls in the video.
Just like other Bic Runga's song. It's very feminine. And to be more specific, her songs represent the emotions from a mid-30 Asian woman with a mild depression very well. It is a very good song to sing along when you are living alone in the flat doing houseworks.
I had a chance to hear her live in London. She is very, very good live.
NB - If you are new to her, her most successful single so far (and you might recognise it) is "Sway". Her best song is "Listening For The Weather" from her best album called "Beautiful Collision".
Well, recycling a Katy-rejected materials is not a bad thing at all. Her playful songwriting and vocals are key parts in converting rubbish in to gold.
Katy's obsession with London-hipster-nightclub theme never bore me. And it's getting better and better! "Got Paid" is undeniably a close cousin with her hidden gem "Louder". GP might be less witty than Louder, but she is richer of course (she doesn't have to spent her "final twenty pounds" in her round anymore!!!)
