As an American Idol alum, Adam Lambert knows how to make another person's song his own. In the last year alone, he breathed new life into Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way" and continued to impress as the replacement frontman for Queen.
Now, he may have gone too far with an incredible cover of Rihanna's "Stay." First off, he one-upped the original artist. Secondly, he did so within 24 hours of the video's official release. Thirdly, he outperformed Rihanna and he's only posted 37 seconds of his version so far. Pop balladeer throwdown!
In the video below, you can watch Lambert (in a backwards hat!) singing Rihanna's "Stay" and giving it more emotion in half a minute than she managed in four. Now don't get me wrong—I'm a fan of the original. But Adam's singing like he means it in a way that RiRi didn't. Watch it above and decide for yourself.

I ask not to troll, because I'm genuinely curious - do you think Rihanna's vocals have emotional weight?
He did well. But Rihanna delivered in her vocal interpretation of this song. Her vocals sound weak and vulnerable and shaky but it's kind of the point of the song. She really sounds like she wants her lover to Stay. I'd love to hear his full cover though.
