Your top five overrated cities
Which five cities in the world do you think are the most overrated, and why?
Only post cities you've been to, otherwise it's unfair, as cities can surprise you, and you can't make a judgement about them unless you've been there!

New York. I mean, it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't really rush to go back.

For me,
Venice, Italy
Seville, Spain
Oslo, Norway
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Naples, Italy
are all overrated.
Milan, Italy; Brisbane, Australia; Tel Aviv, Israel and St. Petersburg, Russia are all cities I've been to which are chronically underrated!

LA
You have to drive EVERYWHERE and it takes serious talent to do so because of assholes and congestion! One second you're in Beverly Hills, the next it's ghetto as ****.

I haven't been to many cities but
- Edmonton
- Toronto
- Ottawa
- Dallas-Fort Worth
- Niagara Falls
Underrated: Detroit, people can't ever seem to look past the current state of it, but it is really a beautiful city.

Mine...
Paris
Because I was expecting something really romantic, but there was litter and graffiti everywhere, and the service (in restaurants, shops, public places) was really rude. Also, it didn't have the 'cosmopolitan' feel of other major cities. But admittedly I've only been in winter, so perhaps it comes alive in summer. Although I have been three times and I've been consistently disappointed, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
Amsterdam
Personally I don't find the Amsterdam buildings very pretty; they're really dark and they depress me (although that's more of a personal thing). But also, the red light district was a total disappointment, and it just doesn't have that city bustle, IMO (although, again I've only been in winter!).
Miami
I was expecting something really glamorous, but 85% of Miami seemed to be really ghetto, and it's only Miami beach which I felt was nice. Although Miami beach was really expensive, and is relatively small, and also the sea (which looked amazing and blue) was a huge disappointment because it was really oily from all the yachts.
Athens
The Acropolis is impressive, but Athens itself is a complete shithole (I was hoping for something like Rome though ). Greece is one of my favourite countries, and I haven't been to a Greek Island I didn't like, but Athens and the Greek mainland in general was a huge let-down.
Barcelona
Because it's smelly and busy and my bag got stolen.

OMG please elaborate; I'm thinking about going there! (Although I loved Rome so we probably have different tastes)

I haven't travelled America much (I've only been to Fl), but from what I hear LA is really overrated. Apparently it has the worst congestion and pollution in America, and Las Vegas is much more glamourous?

NYC is overrated. I literally live off the last exit in NJ before you enter the lincoln tunnel into NYC, so I have some of the best views of the skyline from across the river and I go there all the time for work. I will just never understand people why people think it's worth $2,000/month for a 1 bedroom/studio in Manhattan. I pay HALF that for a 1 bedroom 3 miles and a $3 bus ride away in Jersey. People really want that 212 status though and they claim superiority over the bridge and tunnel folk from their ratty shoebox apartments... To each their own I guess.
LA is overrated too. It has it's pros but it's so auto-centric, sprawled out and polluted. SF is so much better imo, it's much more progressive.
Florida in general is overrated. ATRL knows why. I also lived there... Never again.

Paris, but that's because of the French people.
They're stuck up, refuse to speak English and are constantly moody.

When I first went to London I thought it was overrated because I just did the touristy stuff around the river, but the second time I went wanking around the West End and the different suburbs (like Camden, Portobello Road, Mayfair) and it was so beautiful and unique and bustling so I changed my mind. Also there's a never-ending list of things to do, and the people are surprisingly nice (esp. compared to Paris).

It's probably not overrated but Zurich is a boring city.
