Welcome to Icons Go Commercial - Madonna vs. Kylie vs. Mariah vs. Whitney!
From 2009-2012, these four icons made comebacks within the music world. Whether it be coming back from a hiatus of many years, or experiencing a return-to-form of making great pop music again, these four albums were all made with the intent to make a splash in the music industry. However, not all of them achieved the success that was hoped for them. Some consider this outcome to be from these artists hopping on current trends in order to cater to younger audiences. But let's now take this opportunity to appreciate these efforts from four legendary artists!
Here are the four albums being rated:
MDNA is the twelfth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna. Being her first album since 2008's Hard Candy (which spawned the worldwide hit "4 Minutes" and her most successful tour yet, "The Sticky & Sweet Tour), this album had pressure on it to have success like it's predecessor. Although it achieved a top 10 hit, great first week sales, and a successful tour, many considered it to be Madge's worst effort yet and sales slumped.

Aphrodite is the eleventh studio album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue. Her previous record, X, had not experienced the success that her label had hoped for after bravely beating breast cancer in 2006. Aphrodite was seen as her true return to her pop roots and success seemed inevitable. While "All The Lovers" was a hit and album sales were fine, the rest of Aphrodite's singles failed to maintain this success.

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is the twelfth studio album by American recording artist Mariah Carey. Although this album wasn't exactly a comeback for Mariah, this album was expected to continue the success that her previous effort, E=MC2, received. Spawning a top 10 hit, "Obessed", and positive critic reviews, things were looking up for this album. However, disappointing album sales, lukewarm response to the remaining singles, and a canceled remix album ended up leaving this album with less success than what was originally desired.

I Look to You is the sixth and final studio album by American recording artist Whitney Houston. This was Whitney's first album since 2003's One Wish (or 2002's Just Whitney). This album would prove whether Whitney was still able to make music on par with her former material. I Look To You ended up giving Whitney her best first-week sales of her career and positive press for her new-found career re-surge. Things took a turn for the worse however, with Whitney receiving harsh reviews for her vocal performances for the albums supporting tour, the Nothing But Love World Tour.

idk if I could sit through MDNA again and Whitney's album kind of worries me
Just give it a chance! You can listen to portions of Madonna and Whitney's albums in between Mariah's and Kylie's so that they don't seem to drag on for you!
OMg all of these albums are kinda lackluster.
I mean, MDNA has like 3 good songs and Aprodite/Memoirs are solid, but still MDNA sucks and the other two I mentioned are really lazy.
Haven't heard Whitney's yet but I'm sure it sucks.
So far I only enjoy 1 song from MDNA, hopefully that will change.
I think Aphrodite is solid.
ILTY...I can appreciate the title track? Can we include her live performance of A Song For You from 1990 or ILTY live with Kim Burrell or something
Also if Obsessed is anywhere near Mariah's top song I will cry.
