The Americas: The least homophobic continent?
Well I'm from South America, I live in a Country where the law doesn't protect LGBT community in any aspect, most of the countries here are "religious" countries". yet the advance in matter of LGBT rigths in both North and South America is awesome!
In some countries the same-sex marriage isn't legal yet but they count with Other types of recognition and rights for us and stuff.
AND, one thing I think it's very important: In my country same-sex marriage isn't allowed.. BUT, being homosexual isn't Illegal or a crime here ![Doc](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/doc_zpsc886535c.gif) that's the WORST. In this continent those Anti-Gay laws doesn't exist, unlike other territories. I believe ( I'M NOT SURE, but I haven't heard of one)
that's why I think The Americas is the least homophobic continent, do you agree? ![Celestial 5](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/9b5f67d8.gif)
why the other continents have those awful nonsense laws, even death penalty ![Bibliotheque](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/biblio_zps23dff242.gif) it's SAD.
Africa ![Bibliotheque](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/biblio_zps23dff242.gif) and countries like Russia are tragic.

Homophobia rates are still high in American countries where same-sex marriage is legal, whereas some European countries where the majority supports it like Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and Italy only have civil unions. I'd say that Europe is overall less homophobic if we ignore the East.

well yeah I also think South America isn't completely tolerant, there's always ignorant people around, and some extremists, but I don't live in fear, and that's nice!!

The map is wrong its legal in the UK since last year i think, and there is like 2 or 3 countries in western Europe that don't have same sex marriage but have civil unions, baby steps to a tolerant future.

Looking at same-sex/civil union is rather limiting considering that people only merely tolerate them. The other homosexuals "behaviors" still lend to homophobia in many parts of the continents. That's said we could be fairly less homophobic than the rest of the world but that's not really saying much.

The Americas is not a continent. But yes the Western Hemisphere is much more accepting of gay people.

Hmm, it's more complicated than that
Being gay might not be illegal in some countries and a few even allow gay marriage or partnerships but there's still so much homophobia in Latin American countries. I heard they keep killing transgender women in El Salvador and in general coming from one of these of countries I can tell you society can be pretty hostile to the idea outside bigger cities. Even in the US, stuff keeps happening.
We're much better than the Arab World, Africa and Asia though.

the number of continents is not universal, It really depends of the country you live and which continent model is used there. It can be 5, 6, 7, etc. but anyway ![Celestial 5](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/9b5f67d8.gif)

People typically refer to the Americas as two different continents, North America (Canada, US, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America) and South America (Brazil, Peru, pretty much every country south of Panama).

Yes I know that, but as I already said, is not an universal thing, It really depends on where you live, here in Latin America(+Spain+othercountries) North & South America is one continent, I know isn't the case of the US for example, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Really? A mess. Canadians don't even want to be associated with Americans (US).

Yes, also countries Like Russia and Japan consider that Europa and Asia are a single one continent ![too funny](images/smilies/images/smilies/priceless.gif) I mean, what the hell is 'Eurasia' ![too funny](images/smilies/images/smilies/priceless.gif) it's even worse than N&South America being considered as one single continent lol.

Europe and Asia are one continent actually. Europeans, particularly Western Europeans, believed they were superior to Asians and did not want the two combined.
Also North and South America are separated by two different plates. They aren't even connected. The Panana Canal seperate the two. So the use of one in Spanish and Portugese has zero logic.
