Create a Label 4
Hello, and welcome to Create a Label 4!
I'll be hosting this season. I'll make sure this game runs smoothly, fairly and properly, and I'll do anything I can to make this a great season. However, besides me, we may have some guest co-hosts to help me with charts occasionally, or perhaps during any special Create a Label events!
This is the fourth (technically fifth) season in the series, although, this is only the third (technically fourth) season in its current format: The first, original season, by Demise, wasn't designed this way; it consisted of people bidding for artists, and the winner had the most/biggest artists on their label. The second season, hosted by AdamAL4 (Now Adem!), brought the game to its current format, simulating a real life charting season. The third season, hosted by RaeseanLohan, followed the format, though several complications in this season led to the Season 3 Re-Up, which was hosted by Lucky#17 and e437. After said Re-Up, an All-Stars game was created for Season 3, but was never played. And that brings us full circle...
The main goal of the game is to have a successful artist. There is no eliminations, and no real rewards (besides gaining points). Try to have fun with the game.
To understand how it works, read the following rules:
Points
I will track points this season, to make sure people aren't cheating. It may seem tedious, but I will be on top of it to make sure no one is cheating and to keep track of who is doing the best in-game.
All labels (players) begin with 75 points. It may seem like a lot, but if you read below to promo, you can see there are some pretty expensive items there.
Artists
Most artists will go on bid at one point or another. During the beginning stages of the game, we'll go through a few rounds of artists on bid. Also, you can PM me an artist you would like to buy, and I can make an arrangement for you (This usually applies to "non-mainstream" girls, including indie artists or minor pop girls, including Marina and the Diamonds and Neon Hitch or Lana Del Rey), and those will usually cost 10-15 points, though, please, do not try to PM me asking to buy an artist that is on bid or probably will be on bid at one point or another.
When bidding, I'll try to set a cutoff point, so people don't go broke just trying to buy an artist and then they can't buy any material or promo.
Charts
Unlike the previous seasons, this chart doesn't 100% rely on a mathematical formula. It does involve, partially, a mathematical formula, but it also relies on my (and any co-hosts) common sense and logic. If one idea will have an amazing impact, it's obviously going to help that artist do more than anything you could write down in a formula. To prevent this from seeming as if it was biased, I'll make sure to review the charting positions with my co-hosts, cross-checking ideas. Further, after the first week of charting, previous-week charts will affect the current charts, meaning if an artist went #1 one week, they're bound to have some momentum for that affect their position the next week.
There are also multiple charts, depending on the genre of the music released. There are multiple for singles, including an overall chart, but there is only one for the albums.
Top Hits (Overall chart)
Top Pop Songs (Pop chart)
Top Rock Songs (Rock chart)
Top Urban Songs (Urban, hip-hop & R&B chart)
Top Indie Songs (Indie chart)
Top Dance/Electronic Songs (Dance/Electronic/EDM chart)
And then, of course, there is the albums chart.
At the end of any week, as in, by 10:59 CST (11:59 EST), please have a total promo list posted. For that promo list, including paid performances (But not payola or thread-related promo), you may post
a maximum of 45 articles per week; there is no daily limit. You must include everything you've done that week, including any paid promo (such as performances, payola & thread-related promo) included on it, as this promo list will show me what you've done this week and where you are supposed to chart. If something stops you from posting it on time, arrangements can be made; just PM me. Be sure to include links to each article, as we need to read them to determine your charting position. Thank you!
Every week, a shorter promo list will be due at 6 PM EST (5 PM CST) on Wednesday so my co-host, tigerlily13, can do the midweeks chart. This will show your current position, and may or may not be the same as the weekly chart. Be sure to indicate your current released material; however, you do not gain points for this.
Promo
Promo, in essence, is what keeps the game competitive. Obviously, some of this promo will be paid (and is totally optional, but it obviously does well for your chart performances). Paid promo includes performances, "payola", and thread-related promo.
Try to be as creative as possible with your non-paid promo. While paid promo does wonders, it's not necessary, obviously, and if you play your cards well enough and do some great promo, you can chart higher without paid promotion than someone who only did paid promo.
All promo purchasing begins at 5 PM CST (6 PM EST), unless I say otherwise beforehand. While you can begin purchasing right at that time, it's advised you wait until an official post form me (Which I WILL make) to make sure there's no time-related confusion. That said, it is first-come, first-served, so be sure to be quick with it. You may reserve promotion for other members if they ask (The points will come out of their funds, not the person who is reserving it for them's).
Performances
Your artists, as one of the most common types of real-life promotion, will probably want to perform on various shows.
You may choose up to 3 performances for your label (This number may change, depending on how many labels sign up). All rules relating how many artists/labels can perform at one place are said alongside each show. Due to issues relating to last season's type of promo, types of performances not listed here are not allowed. Meaning, you cannot perform on shows that aren't listed here, nor can you perform at other versions of these shows (Such as "UK's Got Talent"). It may seem a bit harsh, but that began to get out of control before. However, this only means you cannot perform at other TV shows; you are free to perform at places such as Madison Square Garden, and surprise concerts at stadiums or in public or at special events. Besides; there are plenty of other ways to promote.
Awards Show (Sundays, the actual show changes weekly; 10 points): Up to three labels, one artist per label, may perform
Late Night with David Letterman (Sundays, 5 points): One label, one artist
Ellen (Mondays, 8 points): One label, one artist
The Voice (Mondays, 8 points): One label, one artist
The Voice UK (Mondays, 9 points): One label, one artist
X-Factor (Tuesdays, 9 points): Up to two labels, one artist per label, may perform
X-Factor UK (Tuesdays, 9 points): Up to two labels, one artist per label, may perform
Jimmy Kimmel (Tuesdays, 5 points): One label, one artist
America's Got Talent (Wednesdays, 6 points): One label, one artist
Canada's Got Talent (Wednesdays, 6 points): One label, one artist
Jay Leno (Wednesdays, 4 points): One label, one artist
Good Morning America (Thursdays, 6 points): One label, one artist
Jimmy Fallon (Thursdays, 5 points): One label, one artist
The Graham Norton Show (Thursdays, 4 points): One label, one artist
The Today Show (Fridays, 7 points): One label, one artist
The Wendy Williams Show (Fridays, 5 points): One label, one artist
Saturday Night Live (Saturdays, 9 points): One label, one artist
Late Night with Conan O'Brien (Saturdays, 5 points): One label, one artist
Payola
To add a sense of realism to the game, I decided to add a type of payola to the game. Unlike performances & thread-related promo, multiple people can buy these types of promotion.
Radio bullets (10 points): Acts as paid promotion where a given song is played on the radio every hour. Please PM me which artist & song is to be played. You can buy this for multiple songs, but it costs 10 points for each song.
Self-purchases (5, 10, 15 or 20 points; you choose which): Acts as a type of payola where an artist buys their own music so it charts higher. PM me which amount (5, 10, 15 or 20) of points you would like to spend on self-purchases, and include which artist & song. While this will increase your chart placement, it will decrease the amount of points you get with your charted song.
Thread-Related Promo
The following types of promo are related to the thread. Only one of each of these can be bought, just like with performances. For each of them, PM me what you would like to display in each case, please.
Message in the OP (10 points): Displays a message in the thread OP to promote material
Message in the thread title (20 points): Displays a message in the thread title to promote material
Message in my signature (25 points): Displays a message in my signature to promote material. This one's the most expensive since I'll often post in the thread.
Touring
Of course, one will want to send their artists on tour. Each tour date costs 2 points, and you must have a minimum of 5 dates. Please PM me a list of your tour dates and (optionally), where each date is set to take place. Be reasonable with how many dates you'll have; there are no refunds if you don't use up your dates.
Releases
Besides promotion, these really are the base of the game. You'll need to release material to even play the game. Keep in mind that you'll probably want to buy promotion, as well, to prevent a single from flopping, though paid promo isn't necessary, since the game relies on creative publicity stunts as well.
Singles
Singles are one of the main things for charting. They are different from promo singles, as in, they are the main type of thing to promote, alongside albums. Releasing a single costs 5 points, and you may only release one (per artist) once a week.. Please PM me the following information when you decide to release a single, though you probably want to post it in the thread, too.
The artist
The song title
The official release date
The genre
Any additional info (Single cover, writers, producers, etc.)
Promo Singles
These differ from regular singles as in they are meant to promote an album, rather than be a standalone piece. You must have an album out (with this song on it) to release a promo single. Releasing a promo single costs 3 points. However, there's another form of promo singles, which is the airplay single, which can promote your album, but wont' chart. Since it's a promo single to promote your album, but will not chart or receive points for itself, it only costs 1 point. Please PM me the following information when you decide to release a promo single, though you probably want to post it in the thread, too.
The artist
The song title
The official release date
The genre
Any additional info (Single cover, writers, producers, etc.)
Albums
As the second standalone piece of work to chart, you probably want to release an album sooner or later (Unless you plan on being a singles artist). Albums cost 10 points to release, and you may only release one (per artist) once per week. Please PM me the following information when you decide to release an album, though you probably want to post it in the thread, too.
The artist
The album title
The official release date
The track list
The genre
Any additional details
All of that said, enjoy the game!
When you sign up, list your user name, along with your label name, and I will add it to the op!
