Not a bad choice, but a surprising one. The public was not expecting Arcade Fire's The Suburbs to take album of the year at the 2011 Grammys, especially when Katy Perry's Teenage Dream was the ubiquitous album that year. While nearly every music critic preferred the former to the latter, it was surprising the Recording Academy went with the elite vs. the popular choice. After all, Perry's album scored five No. 1 hits -- tying a record previously set by Michael Jackson.
But yeah, what Cap10 said. TD broke all those records and was amazing and critically acclaimed and timeless and hugely successful and all that, but the 5 #1s occurred after AOTY was given, and TD had only had 2 #1s (I think) when it was nominated for AOTY so...their reasoning is wrong, but they are still right
Well consodering TFM won in Pop, I doubt Teenage Dream was 2nd in the voting for AOTY, anyway, what is even the point of this article? It's been 6 years and at the time these grammys were held Katy only had 2(or 3) #1s from this album.

TD was not critically acclaimed.
OT: Arcade Fire deserved it, well if you value quality over sales.
