Is Gimme More the most iconic performance in pop culture history?
I don't see how anything else can amount to this. It had hype, it had tragedy, it had icon, it had controversy, it was world known.
This was the most significant point in her entire career. Everything before this moment build up to the performance. Was she back? And everything after this moment was going to determine her future. Was she going to have a comeback?
*ARTPOP*
*You came to the right place.*
*Blue contacts*
*I see you.*
*I just wanna dance with you.*
*giggles*
*Bow*
*What was she thinking?*
*The double chin*
*What's going on?*
*The crowd is saying.*
*Gimme more*
*Stop, turn, snap.*
*Who else tho?*
*It's Britney, bitch.*
On a side note. Notice the angle of the camera in the VMA video compared to the rehearsal video. It is slightly lowered to exploit Britney for not having the body she once had. Most of the negativity came from her belly being "too big."
This performance was everything. I don't see how any other performance from any other artist could amount to the magnitude and significance of this spectacular event in pop culture history. Whether you like it or hate it, there's no denying it's impact.
For me, this is as good as it gets. You only get to witness something like this once in a lifetime.
In terms of the media reactions, the frenzy it caused, and the cultural impact it brought about, it is the most iconic performance any of the pop girls have given in the past 10 years.
However, re-reading the OP, I wouldn't call it the most iconic performance of all time, if that's what you're asking.
I love Britney... but I seriously can't watch that video & keep a straight face lol
It definitely brought a WHIRLWIND of press & somehow made "Gimme More" peak at #3 (her highest charting single next to "...Baby One More Time" at that time).
