wasn't Michael solo since 1971? last album 2001?Seeing how he had 50 shows in the uk his longevity lasted 38 years. Even though he died his career from his 1st album to last is still more than Madonna probably by 1-2 years lol

I swear, I was getting ready to open a thread like this. But it's just unfair. Michael did everything: he sang, he danced, he wrote, he produced. Madonna? Let's get real. Very different "talents". There's no comparasion here. The King has no Queen. It's a lonely King of Pop. Which is kinda tragic.

Madonna's music is more varied and although none of her albums are as good as Thriller musically, lyrically she has surpassed Michael if you compare their top lyrics (Michael never wrote anything as good as "Secret Garden" for example). He can get really treacly and melodramatic at points, while she can be too juvenile at times, they both have their weak points. None of M's albums are as bad as Invincible though. She has also outlasted him, let's be honest and no shade, but if Michael hadn't died things would be very different...he was almost a has-been before his death, being parodied on things like Scary Movie and the younger generation was not very exposed to his music. his last hit had been in 2001 and that didn't get much Airplay in America...you have to go back to 1995 for that.

Madonna > Michael

Although they are both obviously great artists and arguably the best pop artists ever.

Any way I'm a big fan of Michael. His impact is bigger than Madonna's and he's a much bigger star globally than her, even in the most obscure parts of the world. I loath Madonna but I do enjoy her music and think she's a good performer none the less.

MJ peaked higher but Madge had more longevity and was able to keep it together. MJ has a lot of respect now but that's what death does, Madonna would gain similar respect if she died a young tragic death as well. So tie.
