Has anyone else noticed how similar these songs are? Both songs are about meeting a hot guy in a club and both talk about hypothetical situations with the "hot guy". Both feature prominent breakdowns and have quite a dark, innovative production style.
Lets take a look at their lyrics:
Britney Spears: Hold It Against Me
Quote:
[Verse 1]
Hey, over there
Please, forgive me
If I'm comin' on too strong
Hate to stare
But, you're winnin'
And they're playin' my favorite song
So, come here
A little closer
Wanna whisper in your ear
Make it clear
A little question
Wanna know just how you feel
[Chorus]
If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
'Cause, you feel like paradise
And I need a vacation tonight
So, if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
Janet Jackson: If
Quote:
Sittin over here
Starin in your face
With lust in my eyes
Sure don't give a damn and ya
Don't know that I've been dreamin of ya in
My fantasies
Never once you looked at me
Don't even realize that I'm wantin you
To fulfill my needs
Think what you want
Let your mind free
Run free to a place no one dares to
How many night I've laid in bed excited over you
I've closed my eyes and thought of us a hundred different ways
I've gotten there so many times I wonder how bout you
Day and night
Night and day
All I've got to say is
[CHORUS:]
If I was your girl
Oh the things I'd do to you
I'd make you call out my name
I'd ask who it belongs to
If I was your woman
The things I'd do to you
But I'm not
So I can't
Then I won't
But
If I was your girl
Looking at the lyrics, they are similar but HIAM seems so much more darker to me and cold whereas If is hot. I don't kno. The HIAM's music video is too weird.
