bad girls
"bad girls," the first single of her soon-to-be-released album
matangi which first appeared in her 2010 mixtape, doesn't have that kick her previous singles ("bucky done gun," and of course "paper planes") did. i haven't thought i'd use this word to any maya song, but the production is definitely more
subtle, and the message isn't as hard-edged. r.i.p. to the political girl we used to see? the repeated "live fast, die young, bad girls do it well" can even fit well in a ke$ha single.
still, it's irresistible as a pop single. the chorus is absolutely hypnotic, and the lyrics are full fun swag with a bit of a melancholic touch, "my life but i broke it." she effortlessly proves she's still so cool as ever. all with this song, and arguably the best video of the year attatched to it.
not at her strongest, but i love it enough to make it the number 32.
