THIS WAS 2000
Presenting you... 5 of the most critically acclaimed albums of the tumultuous year of 2000. The year that brought us more exciting Teen-Pop, tons of Post-Grunge that we all totally remember today, and a really awkward transition in Hip-Hop, here are five of the most critically acclaimed and lauded albums of the year. We will rate each song from a scale of 0-10, however in this rate, you will be allowed to give one song a score of 11. Choose wisely. Then we will rank them as a whole based on the averages. Please PM me with your scores by April 20. Thenk u. |
Eminem released his third sophomore album, The Marshall Mathers LP to great commercial success and immense critical praise. It holds the record for highest selling debut week by any solo act in the United States, and critics praised the album for creating depth within his own personal character while still managing to pull off cartoonish, cynical tracks, and Dr. Dre's production. The album, like pretty much everything he did from 1997-2003, came with a large amount of controversy. Was the album homophobic and misogyny? Is it a satire of the culture at the time? Does it matter?

PJ Harvey's fifth solo album, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea was a light contrast compared to the dark direction she went on To Bring You My Love and Is This Desire. It's probably her "poppiest" album but knowing PJ, it still is gritty and unconventional. The album was met with some negative reception upon release but now it holds just about every accolade in Britain an artist can get.

Kid A marked a giant shift in Radiohead's discography, where they officially embraced electronic music, with Aphex Twin and many classical electronic composers serving as their influence, they created an album that blended their previous Alternative Rock/Britpop sound with a more progressive format. The album divided Radiohead fans, but now it is considered a landmark release, and one of the greatest and most important modern albums ever by many critics.

Critics praised André 3000's blend of singing and rapping, Big Boi's rapping, and the group's ambition.

Love those Eminem and OutKast albums, and I'm interesting in hearing Jill Scott's as well, but I have a feeling that I'm not going to like the "alt" albums. They're not really my style.

Cooool. I've only actually heard Outkast and Jill in full! And out of curiosity, what do you use to find out the most acclaimed albums of that year? Pazz & Jop or is there something else?

Ask Ace. But I'm pretty sure it's P&J, plus we wanna have diversity of genres/sounds/etc. so it's probably not just like, the top 5.

the only ones I love are PJ's and Stankonia. I haven't listened to any of the others in a long time but I remember hating them. (except Jill's.. I haven't listened to that)
So anyways I'm here for a PJ and Outkast takeover but I know stupid Radiohead is gonna destroy this rate.

Jill Scott's debut album is in my top 40 best evah. Also love the one's by Outkast and Radiohead's. PJ's is really great, even through I actually prefer both 'Rid of Me' and 'To Give You My Love' when it comes to her catalogue.
All in all great choices, except for that trash by Mr. Mathers.
