Does Putin want to make up for Russia’s failed history (in regard to becoming a hegemon)?
If you were to look back at history, there were several occasions where Russia wanted to be known as the world hegemon and failed tirelessly: collaboration with Nazi Germany, Russian Revolution, and the infamous Cold War. Do you think Putin wants to make up for his ancestors’ lost?
I think he does; because, there are more viable opinions than invading the Crimea. Putin’s motive is to “protect ethnic Russians beyond the Russian boarders”. Instead of disrupting the world, Russia could have merely opened up its boarders for ethnic Russians to return. I think the cost of reestablishment would be about the same as sending soldiers into Ukraine and causing world panic.
What do you all think?
*Also, if you think any western countries are responsible for Russia's actions, be sure to share that as well. I would certainly like to gain perspective on this matter.
