R8: Why are the media not highlighting Rih underperformance?
With 45S performing similarly to Applause, her 2nd and 3rd singles selling less than Gaga's 2nd and 3rd singles from ARTPOP and the fact that her lead single came out 5 months ago for an album that doesn't even have an official title or release date yet; why is Rihanna not subject to the endless bad press and "her career is over" articles like Gaga was in 2013?
Does the media even care about flop singles? They care about relationships, appearances, etc. they never talk about artists flopping unless their album flopped really bad
It didn't happen 4 years into her career, she didn't have meltdowns over twitter, she didn't promote all over the place, she didn't try to overshadow another popstar, and she didn't label her music as 'made to be (radio) hits'.

ARTPOP never flopped really bad and they didn't stop talking about it for a year.
She has no star power to get anyone talking about her.
Plus she already had more flop singles than all of the pop girls combined so it's not that surprising at this point.

Gaga was 5 years in.
And barely any of the articles mentioned that 1 tweet about it being album of the millennium in 2012 (which was a joke regarding album of the decade tweet about BTW) and that 1 comment from a littlemonsters.com chat room so I doubt these 2 fuelled them to drag her for months.
The media only jumps on the "flop" train once an artist has public scandals and/or fails. For ARTPOP, that was the first week sales, the lukewarm reaction to the album's songs, and her messy fashion sense at the time.
45S was received just fine, BBHMM is doing decent, and AO2 is just entirely forgettable and won't damage her at all. Besides that, she's been praised for her sense of style and has looked amazing, and the album is still heavily hyped. She will only be accused of flopping if R8 opens to poor #s.
I think starting off the era side by side with Katy fuelled the media at the beginning and Gaga helped the media out a lot by playing along with all the talk of her falling off. Like commenting on the whole Roar vs Applause thing, or the DWUW performance with the headlines saying Gaga fell off or w/e. I always thought it was a bad idea for her to do that, she made it more powerful by acknowledging all of it, more credible outlets started covering it versus it just being a couple of gossip sites.
Also it's pretty obvious Rihanna's goals are different this era with the sound of her music and the lack of promotion. She's 10 years into this too, I think that warrants her more respect for the GP/media.
