Rihanna ties Aretha for 3rd-most top 40 female entries.
Rihanna, "Needed Me"
Quote:
Rihanna's R&B/hip-hop and rhythmic radio follow-up to "Work" climbs 47-33 on the Hot 100, becoming her 43rd top 40 Hot 100 hit. Here's an updated look at the acts with the most top 40 hits dating to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958, launch (including lead and featured billings):
80, Elvis Presley
68, Lil Wayne
57, Elton John
51, Glee Cast
50, the Beatles
49, Madonna
49, Taylor Swift
47, Drake
46, Stevie Wonder
44, James Brown
43, Aretha Franklin
43, Jay Z
43, Rihanna
Rihanna, thus, ties Aretha Franklin for third place among women with the most top 40 Hot 100 hits. The pair trails only Madonna and Taylor Swift, each with 49. Swift is just six notches from claiming the mark all to herself: her "New Romantics" hits a new peak, rising 62-46 (and 27-12 on Digital Songs with a 35 percent burst to 52,000 sold in the wake of the release of its official video).
