Being culturally relevant and having a place in the industry are two different things.
She is not culturally relevant. Very few artists are. And this isn't anything against her, it's just that she focuses mostly on music. She doesn't go out of her way or try to be anything else.
And yes, she has a place in the industry. She has set the standard for yearly releases and is a known chart killer.
She can't sustain proper relevance after her singles drop out of the top 40 on iTunes and radio. Outside of her singles, she's non-existent. And her albums have always been non-events, so aside from domestic violence issues, she herself has nothing to offer to the public that will make them interested in her as an artist and a person.
