The final Harry Potter movie won nothing at the 84th Academy Awards. This means that ALL of the Harry Potter movie series ended up winning of total 0 awards.
How come the must successful franchise ever, with the final movie being one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2011 and the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, get snubbed so hard?
I don't get why everyone thought it should've got one. I guess once you get so popular and hit the money/popularity ceiling the next place to go is the Oscars but the thing is, CGI and Special Effects were really their only strong contender and someone always did better.
Nope, which is why The Academy Awards are highly respected. The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) never cave in popularity by the masses. They honor actors and films that are worth being nominated, not because of its popularity.
They didn't deserve an Oscar. Only Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) would deserve a nomination if her role was longer, or maybe Alan Rickman (Snape)...but the rest?
And in the technical categories, it was OK, maybe they could have a nomination, or maybe not, but it wasn't a snub at all.
It was really expected to win nothing though, I'm sure the cast was well aware.
I agree they deserved at least one though lol, but it would just seem like pity at this point after avoiding them for so long. The series doesn't need them anyway.
HARRY POTTER WAS NOMINATED FOR 3 OSCARS THIS YEAR.
1.Best Art Direction
2.Best Visual Effects
3.Best Make Up
I really think it deserved to win at least ONE of the latter two
HP deserved that visual effects award! I've watched Hugo in 3D and it was cool, but please, it really didnt deserved that award! HP's v effects were breathtaking!
