About a year ago, when Jamie was initially cast, I was not digging the decision at all.
But then I saw Anonymous and thought, "THIS GUY IS SO JACE THAT IT HURTS!!!"
I think he'll be able to act the part extremely well. He may not look it, but they can work with him. All he really needs to do is gain some weight and cut his hair. Sure, his eyes aren't amber, but eyes aren't that big a deal. :P
By now, majority of the fandom have accepted him as Jace. And he's not that bad looking. I think he's adorable, the more I look at him. And the sharpness in his face is kind of how I pictured Jace to look. I think he'll be fine.
Now, for Simon.
The fan favorite is Logan Lerman. I have not seen a single suggestion that wasn't him. So Cassie is clearly talking about him. I REALLY hope he's cast. That would just be perfection!

I still can't believe we're getting a movie! I still haven't read a book from the Infernal Devices series.

I don't think I'm here for Jamie as Jace, tbh.

OHMYGOD! You HAVE to!!!
I LOVE The Mortal Instruments books to death, but I think The Infernal Devices are so much better.
It's kind of an unpopular opinion, but almost everyone in the TMI fandom loves the Infernal Devices anyways, whether more or less, so I think you'll enjoy it.

I will not let this thread die!! D;
We get Mortal Instruments news at snail speed, so I have a feeling this will be updated accordingly.
But we can still discuss?
Who is your favorite character? Which is your favorite book? Have you read The Infernal Devices? Team Jem, Team Will or Team Confused? Who are your ideal actors for each role?

Meanwhile, the synopsis of book 5 'City of Lost Souls' is out:
Quote:
The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace has been freed from her captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive to rescue him, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing–but so is the boy she hates, Sebastian, the son of her father Valentine: a son determined to succeed where their father failed, and bring the Shadowhunters to their knees.
No magic the Clave can summon can locate either boy, but Jace cannot stay away—not from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith’s dying magic has wrought—Jace is no longer the boy she loved. He and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become what he most feared: a true servant of Valentine’s evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Will the Shadowhunters hesitate to kill one of their own?
Only a small band of Clary and Jace’s friends and family believe that Jace can still be saved — and that the fate of the Shadowhunters’ future may hinge on that salvation. They must defy the Clave and strike out on their own. Alec, Magnus, Simon and Isabelle must work together to save Jace: bargaining with the sinister Faerie Queen, contemplating deals with demons, and turning at last to the Iron Sisters, the reclusive and merciless weapons makers for the Shadowhunters, who tell them that no weapon on this earth can sever the bond between Sebastian and Jace. Their only chance of cutting Jace free is to challenge Heaven and Hell — a risk that could claim any, or all, of their lives.
And they must do it without Clary. For Clary has gone into the heart of darkness, to play a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing the game is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she even still trust him? Or is he truly lost? What price is too high to pay, even for love?
Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

Pre-production on the big-screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" novel "City of Bones" has been about as straightforward as a lesson in Shadowhunter lineage (read: not very), but today, a sure sign of progress was announced. Namely, Constantin Film has hired a new director!
"Karate Kid" helmer Harald Zwart will take over duties from previous director Scott Stewart, who left to work on the television version of "Legion." Harald boasts an eclectic resume, which includes "The Pink Panther 2," "Agent Cody Banks" and "One Night at McCool's." Despite his lack of fantasy experience, author Cassie had nothing but glowing things to say about meeting with the director.
"Harald is awesome," Cassie told Hollywood Crush via email. "I flew to Los Angeles to meet with him and with [producer] Robert Kulzer and [screenwriter] Jessica Postigo. Harald has more energy than anyone I have ever met. He wound up not being able to join us till about 10 at night 'because of Vikings' (I think this was a commercial he was filming), but when he did show up he had every single question in the world about the story and the characters. We spent an hour talking about Portals and another hour on Valentine (he is a huge fan of Valentine—maybe I should worry).
"He was an interesting unexpected choice for director to me, and initially I was worried because I kept asking, 'Does he understand fantasy?' but talking to him really evened out those concerns. He got the magic, and he got the characters. There was even a moment where he was talking about Magnus and he said, 'And then Magnus meets this woman...' and Robert, Jessica and I all said : 'Boy.' And he said, 'What?' And we said 'Boy. Magnus is gay.' And he stared like we were crazy and said, 'I KNOW. I was only going to say he met this woman and she hired him to help him with her daughter! Of course Magnus is gay.' And he waved his arms and yelled 'Magnus is fabulous!' So I thought, 'I like you.'"
Production is scheduled to begin August 15, with shooting taking place in both Toronto and New York. But before Harald can yell "action," there's a lot of casting to be done—another major talking point of Cassie's meeting.
"We talked about actors for Jocelyn and Valentine and the other adults," she revealed. "I can't really say who was discussed; I am sure they would shoot me. But I did love the suggestions. And we talked about Simon. Everybody loves Lily Collins, and she has what's called 'meaningful consultation' regarding the casting of Jace and Simon. She already used it to advocate for Jamie Campbell Bower, who everyone agreed she had an amazing audition with. There is an actor she likes for Simon that a lot of my fans love, and I can't say who, though I do think his schedule might be a bit booked! There are other actors we discussed too, some really adorable guys. Lily has good taste, I think! It's fun stuff sitting around tossing around all these actors' names, but of course in the end it comes down to who is available when and how they test with Lily, especially with the shoot date coming up."
With so many decisions to be made regarding casting, location and more, Cassie is just happy to have input.
"It was a great meeting to have—I have always entirely expected to be completely left out of the film-making process, so it's been amazing to be included," she enthused. "I said that during dinner and the producer turned to me and said, 'I gave up my tickets to "The Hunger Games" premiere to be here! That's how important this is.' I was like: holy crap. That IS a big deal!"

lol. He doesn't really look the part, but I don't want to make judgements before I see him in action. He's a really good actor and I've seen him pull off a lot of Jace's qualities in his different roles. Especially in Anonymous.
Cassandra Clare thought he was perfect. I trust her judgement since she is the author. lol.
I'm really curious to see who else they cast though. Especially for Magnus

He was in a Starz series called Camelot where he played King Arther and he was completely miscast for the role. So I guess that kinda stained me from seeing him in other roles. lol
I trust Cassandra too though.
Didnt she say she wants Darren Chris for Magnus? Idk how I feel about that. lol
I'm really curious to see who they cast as Simon, Alec, and Isabelle too.
I always imagined Luke being played by the guy who played Luke on Gilmore Girls but I think he's too old now.

Darren Criss?
But isn't Magnus tan and Asian-looking? Or maybe the cat eyes just make him seem Asian. I can't remember whether or not he is. XD
My friend had said she'd be curious to see if Tyler Blackburn could pull it off. I think they could make him look it, but I'm not sure if he can act it. I've only ever seen him do Pretty Little Liars, so I don't really know.
Darren Criss...I'm not feeling it. But we never know. He could floor us. XD
For Luke, I'm not sure. Someone said Michael Fassbender, but I think he's too good looking.
For Alec, a fan favorite is Nicholas Hoult, but there was a rumor at some point that Gabriel Hugoboom was a contender (he's an unknown, but he has a youtube channel.)
And for Izzy, I have no idea whatsoever. Just cast her well. She's one of my favorite characters. XD
I also have trouble accepting anyone that isn't Logan Lerman to play Simon.

Yea she said that Darren is part Asian and almost how she pictured him. I had no idea either. lol
Tyler? I always imagined Magnus to look like in the mid-20's range though. That's the thing. But I guess they would want him to look more Alec's age. Idk
Ewww @ Fassy. No ty.
Omg. Nicholas would be flawless but I think he's too famous now to play Alec. I googled Gabriel. He's hot but looks kinda old. lol
I doubt Logan would do another YA book because of Percy Jackson. I'd love him for Simon though, Ugh, I can't wait for the casting announcements to start rolling in.

Darren is part Asian?
I did not know this.
I got the idea for Tyler here: http://www.cityofbonesmovie.com/magnus/
There are two other guys there too. I wouldn't mind them either. Though, the guy from Degrassi looks a wee bit too young, imo.
Some people say Adam Lambert for Magnus and I want to yank my hair out. Just...no. XD
As for Logan, that might be true. Especially because, for some inexplicable reason, they're filming a movie for the second book...even though the first film followed the first book so loosely that there is no way these two movies will have any sort of continuity.
Percy Jackson had potential to be the next Harry Potter, or something like it for the new generation. It gets me so upset that they messed that movie up so badly. Those books are so good.
People have also said Aaron Johnson for Simon. He kind of resembles Logan Lerman. But I've never seen him in a movie before...unless you count the one he did for Nickelodean.
The casting is going to be fun. I just hope they do it well. I would hate it if they mess up these characters. This is one of my favorite series's. I just hope they make a good adaptation.

I loveeeeeee Shannon aka Zane from Degrassi. I love his whole swagger and personality. It would make a great Magnus but yea, he might be too young. Ugh. Idk.
I loved the Percy books too especially since I adore Greek Mythology. They ****ed up the movie so badly its not even funny.
I hope it goes well too. Did you hear about Cassandra's new series? Jem's ancestor is the lead girl.

YES! I heard!!!! I'm so excited!!! And also optimistic because if Jem's descendant is in the story, that means he doesn't die before conceiving a child! (Unless he has a brother we don't know about) I just love him so much
I can't remember, but someone said that we're losing a character at the end of the Infernal Devices. Either that or The Mortal Instruments. Or maybe both...because Cassandra Clare loves to play with our emotions. DX
Which series do you like better? TMI or the Infernal Devices?

Its tough actually. I really love Jem but I think I love more characters on TMI. Plus the story on TMI is bigger and grander. But ID is amazing too. But yea, I think I prefer TMI. I can't wait until May!

Me neither!
Some chapters have leaked, but I'm trying my hardest to avoid them. I cannot wait for CoLS
Also, I found this on a blog:
The Mortal Instruments (My CoLS Masterpost)
- The reason for Jace’s chipped tooth: a battle with a demon
- Jace running around naked with antlers on his head - TRUE STORY (it also involved fairies). He will mention it to Clary in City of Lost Souls
- Nobody protected the mundanes before the Shadowhunters because the demons hadn’t discovered our world yet
- Idris became hidden after the Shadowhunter race started
- You can raise angels like you raise demons -> this will be mentioned in City of Lost Souls
- Clary got her protection spell from a warlock we all know
- There will be Sebastian POVs in City of Lost Souls and these will make it easier to understand him
- Magnus will do a lot of spells in City of Lost Souls to “fix the problem [Jace]”
- Simon will bite Izzy and this quote “Every time we see each other we fall into bed — and I know I started it, I’m not blaming you— it’s just that maybe we should *talk*.” is not about them, but they will spend some time in bed, talking. Cassie didn’t want to say if it’s Izzy and Jordan
- Magnus smells likes sandalwood
The Dark Artifices (for even more information go here) - Arthur is the father
- Mark is the oldest, then Helen, Julian (Jules), Tiberius, Olivia (Tiberius is a few minutes older than Olivia), Drusilla and Octavius is the baby. He is called Tabby.
- Cristina doesn’t have a surname yet but her nickname is Tina
- Cassie always wanted to write about twins
Movie news
- They are looking for adult actors right now (Valentine and Jocelyn). Cassie would love Michael Fassbender as Valentine but it’s not up to her
- The ‘kids’ will be cast later
Cassandra Clare reblogged it, so I'm guessing it's legit.

Hello, Shadowhunters.
And a little bit more for you on the movie. It’s quite a day for us! But it’s hard to underestimate how important a release date is for a film. The only bigger deal is actually starting shooting at which point … you really have a movie.
As I told MTV, Harald (our director, so we might as well all start thinking of him on a first name basis) is putting his production team together. They just hired Francois Seguin as production designer. Francois is incredibly talented and awesome, just was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Borgias, and it is his job to make everything look amazing and beautiful. Francois, Harald and the production team are scouting for locations this week … so if you’re in Toronto and/or New York … you might see them searching for the Institute.
We have a casting director, too, Stephanie, and there’s a definite concentration on European and British actors for the Shadowhunters, which I like as it underlines the feeling that they are not quite like the culture that surrounds them. That doesn’t apply to Simon of course, so favorites floating around like a certain guy whose name starts with A and another guy whose name starts with L are not off the table. *
*I’m really not supposed to talk about casting. They’ll make me live in a brick igloo. Since everyone is asking me about Playlist saying Jamie isn’t attached, they have been saying that for a while. I do not know why. It isn’t what I have heard, and that is honestly all I know.
|
From Cassandra Clare.
So, I never really pictured the Shadowhunters as being British...but I can see it working. I was thinking Jamie would do an American accent, but I guess not? Oh well. I'm cool either way.
SO. EXCITED.
