UK Chart: Ellie is #1, Lana is #4, Gaga is #7, Drake is #9
By Daniel Lane
Ellie Goulding can’t believe she’s managed to clock up three weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with Burn...
Ellie Goulding’s reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart with her latest track, Burn, continues for a third week, the Official Charts Company can reveal.
The 26-year-old singer / songwriter from Herefordshire knocked Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop off Number 1 last month to score her first ever chart topper. However, in a new interview broadcast this evening (Sunday, September 1) on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show, Ellie says that she never expected Burn to go to Number 1, let alone stay there for three weeks in a row!
“It feels amazing, but weird,” Ellie tells Scott Mills. “Weird because I didn’t really expect it to be Number 1, let alone for this amount of time!
“I feel very lucky, because it wasn’t like I released it in a quiet week of mediocre songs,” she adds. “There are some big smashes, so I’m really happy.”
Indeed, not only has Burn seen off challenges from the likes of Avicii, Miley Cyrus and Klangkarussell during its tenure at Number 1, it also kept Lady Gaga’s comeback single, Applause, from the top spot.
“I didn’t think I had a chance in hell about getting a Number 1 with Avicii’s song around, and Gaga, and Miley,” adds Ellie. “I was surprised! Lady Gaga WILL be Number 1 at some point.”
You can watch the moment Ellie found out she was Number 1 below:
Avicii’s Wake Me Up holds firm at Number 2, while Klangkarussell’s Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) FT Will Heard is also static at Number 3. This week’s Official Singles Chart Top 5 is completed by the Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness (4) and Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop (5).
New Entries
Jordan and Harley, AKA Rizzle Kicks notch up this week’s highest new entry, and their fifth Top10 hit, with Lost Generation (Number 6). The video for the track was produced by 150 young people aged between 16 and 24 as part of O2’s Go Think Big training scheme.
Former Westlife vocalist Shane Filan scores his first solo hit with Everything To Me (14), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are new in at 25 with Same Love FT Seattle-based singer-songwriter Mary Lambert, and The 1975 enter at 34 with their latest single, Sex.
Bastille climb 13 places to enter the Top 40 at Number 39 with Things We Lost In The Fire. It is the band’s third Top 40 hit from their Number 1 album, Bad Blood.
And finally, Kanye West’s Gold Digger re-enters the Official Singles Chart at Number 40. It originally peaked at Number 2 back in 2005.

Gaga rising two spots. It has been getting green updates on UK iTunes all day, so she has a fourth week in the top10 on lock. Not bad considering how weak her debut was.
