'Miley Cyrus burst in to 2013 like a "Wrecking Ball, declaring her independence from Hannah Montana and dominating the pop culture landscape. Her album "Bangerz" taught America how to twerk while her videos broke records. Whether it was the tongue, the twerk-tastic VMA performance or the Terry Richardson photo shoot, there's no denying there was a method to Miley's madness, the kind that could only be orchestrated by a 21-year-old who's been in the business for nearly a decade,' She schooled -- and shocked -- us all in 2013, and did so on her own terms.

"I’m Morpheus, and she’s Neo,” he says of the former Hannah Montana star. “I can’t tell her what to do, I can only let her find it within herself.” That wasn’t too hard, since Cyrus is “an old soul” who went into the studio knowing exactly what she wanted. He keeps gushing: “Her voice is unreal. She’s got that amazing low tone. It sings like it’s from ’79. I don’t usually compliment my own stuff, but it’s unlike anything she’s ever done before. And I have a lot of respect for her—don’t care what anyone says. ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ was a big record. She challenged the pop world with that song." - Pharrell
"I adore Miley. I love her, I've known her for a few years now, and I've told her before she's just such a good girl. She's smart, she's funny, she's so talented. She's every bit as great an actress as she is a singer and a performer. She really is. She's terrific. We all know her as one of the biggest stars in the world, and she can do no wrong with her music and shows, but she has really got it as an actress. She's got the depth and she's got the range. It's an honor to play her mom in The Last Song." - Kelly Preston
"I like Miley, I think she's really really sweet. I like that 'See You Again' song, I think she gets a hard time to be honest, it's not her fault she's a Disney star. She's growing up. I really like her." - Adele
"It was really good. We were on the Oprah show together, me and Miley and Pat Benatar and Sheryl Crow and some others. Rock and roll girls. I met Miley and I thought she was really nice. She’s done a very sweet homage. I’m delighted to have someone her age doing that song." - Stevie Nicks on Miley's cover of Landslide
“I think Miley Cyrus is a great talent. She reminds me of Dolly Parton vocally. I am a big fan and admire her.” - Mick Fleetwood
"She's one of the few musicians -- and I want to use that word cause she can actually play and sing -- she's one of the few people who can pull it off and give it her own flair and make it sound good. (She) nailed the song. She really knew what she was doing. She got in there and picked the guitar up. It was one of those nights that just worked." - Bret Michaels on Miley's cover of Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Jett then returned the compliment, “I was thinking to myself … how difficult it must be to lead your life as a teenager with the paparazzi and the amount of press you’re surrounded by. I thought to myself, ‘Wow that was kind of a blessing that we didn’t have that stuff when I was growing up in The Runaways,’” - Joan Jett
"I'm thrilled young girls are claiming their sexuality for themselves. I love bold women: Madonna and Scarlett Johansson - sexy and gorgeous, but not only that. And Miley Cyrus - fantastic!" - Helen Mirren
"I just want to go on record and say everyone should just leave her alone. I never represented anything wholesome in America ... I only had one way to go. People are just bored. Leave the poor girl alone! She's going to grow up soon, she's going to probably show her knees next — watch out!" - Madonna on Miley's Vanity Fair controversy
"Passing along the message from Madonna. She says: "Thank you princess." - Guy Oseary
"She's just as cute as a june bug! Just a precious angel! Cuter than a litter of pups." - Cher
"I don't know why people keep hating on Miley's new haircut... I love it!" she wrote. "She's being herself and she's being different and I love her for that. One of the most beautiful girls on this planet." - Paris Jackson
"I look at Miley Cyrus as the female Justin Timberlake, the reason why I say that is, her work ethics are incredible. That girl can sing so good, I was very impressed. I couldn't believe it. " - Timbaland
"I hadn't met Miley before this film. She has a large body of work, and quite a few fans here locally. Hoarding the location at all times, kind of nice to watch. This is an interesting movie for her, I think. She's sixteen. She's sixteen! How is she sixteen? Obviously this role she's playing asks a lot of her emotionally, it has a lightness to it and yet a lot of emotion, and there's a lot of different lines she has to walk in. It's not an easy job, and I think she's doing well!" - Greg Kinnear on Miley's role in The Last Song
""She's like a little Elvis! What people don't realize about her is she is such a fantastic singer and songwriter. She writes songs like she's 40 years old! She's really deep. I know I'm partial, because she's my goddaughter. But I'm amazed at the talent that child has and the effect she has on people. I really know she has everything it takes. She is just trying to find her way and she will." - Dolly Parton
"Just heard and saw your version of my song glad you made it your own. Love it. Go Miley!" - Melanie Safka on Miley's cover of "Look What They've Done To My Song"
"I think when you have new sensations like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, adolescents identify with it the same way that children identified with The Beatles. When you have thousands of teenagers feel the same, they become euphoric because they have this love for one thing in common, whether The Beatles, Hannah Montana (TV personality who embodied Cyrus), Justin Bieber, or whatever." - Paul McCartney
"Love Miley. Party In The U.S.A. was the best pop song since Toxic. One of the top 5 pop songs of the past decade." - Sia Furler
"“I just love her. At the end of the day, whether we feel it’s right or wrong, this is what the heck she’s feeling. She’s being real about her feelings. She’s not just going with the flow because this is what made her. Some people would say, ‘Well, I have to get my money.’ But she’s rich as ****.”" - Lil Kim
“At the end of the day, her life is — and I don’t generally talk about other artists… — but people need to get off her back. I think for her [Miley], in particular, she’s a teenager, her whole life has been on blast because of what she does and she happens to be good at it. I think it’s kind of retarded when people are like, “Oh she’s trying to be this and she’s…”, who gives a crap! This is what you do, who wasn’t like that at eighteen, nineteen? Cut her some slack. People forget that just because you are in the public eye they think you’re supposed to temper yourself… “I saw the video [Can't Be Tamed] and I was like 'wow'. I knew exactly what she was going through as I watched it. I thought it was a beautiful video, she looks great, I get exactly what she’s saying, she couldn’t have put it more clear; She’s in a cage. I get it, it’s great, I think it’s brilliant, good for her. I’m glad she did that. It’s her right.” - Kelis
"Miley has got the equivalent of what Olivia Newton-John was to 'Grease'. The whole country is in love with her, as am I. The effect that Miley's making globally is so huge. And like Olivia, she's everybody's fantasy, the 'that's my ideal girlfriend' the 'that's my ideal friend,' you know, everything! Then you get this performance level that's extraordinary, and acting ability... Everything, it just seemed like a parallel. But I think Miley's even done these other things that are just extraordinary." - John Travolta
"Her acting is unaffected, she can play serious, and she works easily with a pro like Kinnear, whose light comedy skills are considerable and undervalued. She even seems sincere in the face of a plot so blatantly contrived it seems like an after-school special." - Roger Ebert on Miley's performance in The Last Song
"She's incredible. Just her spirit, her passion, her enthusiasm, her intelligence, her strength. She's just a light that uplifts everybody everyday. I love her. Literally, I'm happy to be with her all day, to hang out at night to have dinner, and get up the next day and do it all over again." - Demi Moore
“She plays kind of a motormouth character so they gave her page long monologues,” Cryer said, noting that he was worried when she was still “on book” — acting with a script — during dress rehearsals. “Even when we got to within two hours of the show, she was still on book, and we were thinking ‘Uh oh, Miley better bring it,’” he said.
But when it came time to tape before a live audience, he said, “Miley brought it. Miley was just on fire, did fantastic. She was lovely, we had a great time.” - Jon Cryer on Miley's role on Two & a Half Men
"It was silly. Acting kissing is one of the weirdest things that you have to do. It was a lot of fun. She is extremely talented, extremely hilarious and she's an awesome person to have on set."" - Angus T. Jones
"She was great. She was up for anything. That's always, to me, what makes a host fun to have around. They'll make fun of themselves or how the media perceives them. She was up for anything, which was so great." - Kristen Wiig on Miley's SNL gig
"Miley reminds me of Madonna - her work ethic. In a time when you don't need to be talented to be famous, she's good enough that she wouldn't have to work that hard, but she does. She works harder than any young person I've ever met." - Brett Ratner, director of Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger" video
"She's like Madonna was 20 years ago, Madonna was shockingly outrageous … but a talent. And I think Miley has all of that plus plus plus." - Tommy Hilfiger
"To have Miley sort of instill her wisdom was really amazing to see those two, because there are not a lot of people that have been in that position in history, so it was a cool moment." - Jon M. Chu on Miley giving Justin Bieber advice for his 3D movie
"I've loved some of her songs. Party In The U.S.A., The Climb -- both fantastic." - Bill Werde (Editorial Director of Billboard)
"One night at an Elvis tribute in Memphis, Billy Ray and such stars as Melissa Etheridge, Dwight Yoakam, and Aaron Neville were singing the Amazing Grace finale when two-year-old Miley crashed onto the stage and started singing. Everyone was passing her around, and at the end, Tony Bennett handed her to Billy Ray and said, 'You've got a special little girl here.'"
"I enjoyed seeing Miley Cyrus having fun rockin' out with Rebel Yell last night on VH1 Divas! 'Take that bitches'!" - Billy Idol
" I love you madly. You are a rare breed of talent and soul. You inspire me every day girly girl. Old soul in such a young body. You are a gift to us common folk." - Kirstie Alley
"You out-dressed+styled everyone last night. If anyone gives you **** about that haircut pay no mind. You look like Brigitte Nielson. " - Lady Gaga
"She's got an incredible voice. I have heard her sing ‘Wrecking Ball' before that single came out and I tweeted about it a long time ago before it even came out and I was just so excited about it for her. She's got a set of pipes that are incredible."" - Katy Perry
"I think she's beautiful, I think she rocks it harder than I do," P!nk said on Today. "Everyone has long brown hair -- when two girls get fearless and shave their heads, it's a big deal. I just think we're maybe a little more daring. I love Miley. You can't talk about Miley around me.” - P!nk
"Miley Cyrus... I'd hit it. Holler. -- You sound sick on Time of Our Lives, weee!!! -- Um.... Party In The U.S.A. Every day. Admit it. It's the best. Been stuck in my head alll day." - Ke$ha
"Miley is pretty much the same person off camera that you see on camera. She is just so just, outgoing and 'everything is big and huge and awesome!' She's just such a positive person, she's not reserved, she doesn't hold anything back, which is one of my favourite things about her." - Taylor Swift
"We grew up around the Cyrus family, and they're amazing people, and I know they wouldn't steer their daughter wrong," Williams said. "Miley's got a good head on her shoulders, so I think she'll come out of all this strong. She's a great girl." - Hayley Williams & Paramore
"I dig her! She's a badass. Love her new style + new hair." - JoJo
"And we play Miley Cyrus’s ‘Party in the USA’,” she went on in her Interview interview. “She’s by far the best Disney kid. ‘Party in the USA’ is so great! I listen to it every time I’m landing in the USA. I get hyped up!" - Charli XCX
"I actually like Miley Cyrus more than a lot of them because at least she’s not trying to be edgy—she’s still Miley Cyrus. I appreciate that." - Sky Ferreira
"Ok Miss Miley. She better werk. She can't be tamed honeee." - Solange Knowles
"Miley's a G. We got sum ****!" - Wiz Khalifa
"I never thought I would collaborate with Miley Cyrus, but I am so glad it happened. It's like not even real to me! I have to pinch myself. It's almost like a dream come true 'cause she is super talented. We made a lot of great records together." - Juicy J
"It is so inspiring to see what a true role model Miley Cyrus has become. Fearless, true to herself - this is a real chick to look up to kids." - Simon Curtis
"Your backyard session videos are incredible. You have such a soulful voice." - Ryan Beatty
"She’s a real sweetheart. She’s a big sweetheart, actually. She’s someone who has really stayed true to herself, and she hasn't changed for how successful and huge she is. She’s really grounded and so is her family. They’re very supportive people. She’s somebody who’s always there to listen, and she’s a great person.” - Ashley Tisdale
“Wow, I do not even know what to say to that. I’ve known her since she was a little girl. It’s amazing what she’s done. She’s blossomed into this beautiful lady and taking the world by storm. I’m so proud of her.” - Zac Efron on being Miley's celebrity crush
"When our cameraman asked Vanessa Hudgens about Miley’s new look — her response was simple but strong, “I love it!”"
"I think Miley Cyrus - 'Party in the U.S.A.' is my favorite song ever." - Asher Roth
"Turns out Kristen Stewart is a fan of Miley Cyrus and her song “The Climb.” In a recent interview, Kristen revealed that she listens to the song when she is getting in the mood to play Bella Swan in the hit movie franchise “Twilight.” 'I always listen to music, but I had particular music that I listened to on New Moon but didn’t really have to for Eclipse. I just listened to my normal music. Bella’s less tortured. She’s less conflicted. I mean… it’s the most she’s conflicted about the love triangle [but] that happens sort of at the end.
