ATRL's female population, when you get married will you take your husband's surname? Would it matter if it's ugly? Keep your maiden name? Hyphenate them?
Gay males, what do you plan to do? Keep/Merge/Hyphen? What if you have kids, whose last name would the kids take?
Straight males, if your wife to be wanted to keep her name and want you to change yours, would you? Would you be offended if she kept hers?

I like my last name... It depends on if I like his if I'd take it.
I wouldn't be opposed to keeping my name and hypenating it with the husbands...
As far as kids, they would definitely be hyphenated.
I'm a female and for the longest I used to think taking the man's last name was sexist.
Or at least had some underlying sexism. It used to bother me that it's basically obligatory for the woman to take the man's surname. Expected and not up for discussion.
The couple selects a brand new last name. Admittedly, this is a more creative approach, yet one of the things I've admired about openly gay couples is their natural willingness to entertain the unconventional. The new joint name could combine existing last names, with Jon Englewood and Jose Martinez becoming the "Marwoods," for instance. Paul Yardley and Dave Schubert may become the "Schuleys" - or, less attractively, the "Yardberts."
If his last name is really bad, then I'll keep mine. If it's nice, I'll take it. If I keep mine but we have kids they'll have his last name though (let them deal with a bad name, aren't I so nice) I don't like hyphenating, I think it makes it messy looking.
