Gaga accused of copying Annie Lennox's Grammy performance
Lady Gaga has once again been accused of copycat antics following last night's performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Quote:
The 25-year-old pop star sang her track You And I as her male alter-ego, whom she has named Joe Calderone.
She shocked the crowd, including Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, as she stepped out onto the dark, empty stage wearing a loose black suit and T-shirt with slicked-back dark hair with a lit cigarette.
But many viewers, including Kelly Osbourne, felt the routine was all too familiar, accusing her of plagiarising Annie Lennox's performance of Sweet Dreams at the Grammy Awards in 1984.
Osbourne linked to a YouTube clip of the Euritymic's performance, which saw Lennox perform in drag, after writing: 'I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!'
Others also noted the similarities on Twitter, with one user saying: 'Is annie lennox suing gaga for ripping off her look from 2 decades ago?'
Of course, it is not the first time Lady Gaga has been criticised for being unoriginal.
Many claimed her track Born This Way was a rip-off of Madonna's Eighties hit Express Yourself and Bette Midler recently accused her of copying her mermaid in a wheelchair stage routine.
Another Twitter user added: 'Madonna, Bette Midler, Annie Lennox! Does Gaga have any ideas of her own or is she hoping everyone is too young to remember the originals?'
Jo Calderone has been around since 2010 though, and he wasn't meant to be someone who would ever perform.
I think people are looking too much into Gaga
Gaga references a classic film/director = nobody realizes, nobody cares.
Gaga references a past female artist = "zomg, holy ****, unoriginal fraud!"
Gaga makes a lot of references, nobody is safe. Hide yo kids, hide yo pop stars of yesteryear. Get over it, especially when those references come from pre-existing sources/images.

Lmao, I know right? These people act like they know who the **** Annie Lennox was before this morning.
Gaga has blatantly copied many times, but I think this case was more of a reference/inspiration than a copy. I mean, I don't see how dressing as a man when someone before her did the same is copying.
