It appears that Katy may be coming to snatch the Hot 100 crown from Rihanna. But what about album sales? Rihanna has sold almost 26 million and Katy has only sold a little over 8 million. But what were Rihanna's sales after her 2nd album? Katy has absolutely eclipsed everything Rihanna had achieved by her 2nd album. Could she keep doing it and eventually catch up to her in album sales? We all know Capitol is investing in her like no other.
I sometimes debate whether or not she'll catch up. It's a matter of will Teenage Dream be her peak. She could either get more successful as time goes on like Rihanna and build as she goes, or let the beginning be the highpoint and sort of just slowly go down but still be popular on the road, like Christina Aguilera (since her first album was her most successful).
I don't know why people don't count Katy's real debut album, just because it flopped so hard.

If we're talking about ratio's, an album with 5 US #1 singles, and HUGE hits worldwide, that sells just a little more than an album with one #1 hit, then its not impressive.
