ɷPH 2015 yearend reviewɷ
Still International acts dominates this yearend countdown compare to PH' previous years way back in early 2010's. With that the breakthrough artist SHAWN MENDES ruled the best of 2015 chart, his "Stitches" recorded a 9 week-consecutive streak atop and still charting until now with more than 18 weeks at the top 20 main chart. "Stitches" is the longest single to peak the top spot since SOUTHBORDER's "Rainbow" made a 11 week streak more than a decade ago, this yearend number one single is also the 2nd longest peaking single at #1. Shawn Mendes also made remarkable entries this year with "Something big" -Pk #20, "I know what you did last summer" -Pk#10 and Life of the party which peaked at #3.
Also making a great performance is the 2nd runner up song of the year "See you again", this powerful OST of FF7 by WIZ KHALIFA & CHARLIE PUTH peaked atop for 6 weeks, and still holds the record for this year's longest weekspender at the top 20 with 26 weeks. CHARLIE PUTH, aside from this single has another entry in the top 20 together with MEGHAN TRAINOR with their collaboration of "Marvin Gaye" which reign supreme for two weeks in the 2nd quarter of the year. Landing at the 3rd spot is an another 6 week slayer, "Somethings gotta give" by ALL TIME LOW, the pop-rock band made a huge return since their 2011 single "I feel like dancing" which peaked only at #17.
It's been another wonderful year for 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, after making "She looks so perfect" a number song for the last year, "She's kinda hot" made it to the top 4, this sophomore carrier single made a 3 week streak at the topspot, aside from this 5SOS also made 2 other number one songs this 2015 "What I like about you", "I can't remember"
both peaked 1 week at numero uno.
Sadly, there are only 3 OPM songs that enters the top 20. First up is NEVER THE STRANGERS' great comeback since 2012, their debut single "Alive" is top OPM song during that year which peaked at #2 on yearend chart. This year, their 3 week ruler "Sabay" occupied the 5th spot. SARAH GERONIMO's "Perfectly Imperfect" is this year's 2nd biggest OPM song, it peaked atop for 1 week and stayed at the top 20 for 18 weeks. JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE still managed to have an entry for this yearender chart with "Tidal Wave", the song only peaked at #2 but recorded an impressive performance at the weekly countdown for 17 weeks.
"I'm not the only one" by SAM SMITH started the 2015 with 2 weeks at #1, other singles which peak early this year are --Sugar by MAROON 5 -2 wks@1, "Night Changes" by ONE DIRECTION -3wks@1, "Uptown funk" by MARK RONSON ft. BRUNO MARS - 3wks@1, as well as HOT CHELLE RAE's returning entry "Don't say goodnight" -1 wk@1.
Last year's PH best male & artist of the year awardee ED SHEERAN still made it to top 20, but compared to his last year single "Sing" which ended at #3, "Photograph" landed at the 13th spot and stayed at the chart for 16 weeks.
TAYLOR SWIFT spend her 4th yearender with "Style" [peak at #2], her previous entries are 2012 -"Safe & Sound" [#13], 2013 - "I knew you were trouble" [#9] 2014 -"Shake it off" [#8]. Her single "Blank Space" which was 2014's last weekly #1 song peaked in this year chart at #23 compare to its last yearend peak [#33]. Sharing the same scenario is ONE DIRECTION's "Night Changes" which was 2014's song at #62 but this year it peaked at #09. Such scenario happens when a single performed a great chart performance between the last quarter of previous year and the first quarter of the current year. Aside from those 2 singles, SILENT SANCTUARY's "Meron nang iba" peaked at #2 last year after holding at 26th spot on the 2013's year end chart.
Aside from "Style" & "Tidal wave", non-number one singles like "What do you mean?" "Want to want me", "Love me like you do" and "Risk it all" made it way to the top 20. However a lot of number-one singles didn't made it, this is maybe due to their short lifespan at the weekly chart or they just entered the chart on the last quarter of the year. Such singles are:
42. See you -Hale 1@1
33. Flashlight -Jessie J 1@1
27. I can't remember -5 Seconds of Summer 1@1
26. Hanggang sa wakas -Ebe Dacel 2@1
25. Hello -Adele 1@1
22. Firepower -Bamboo 2@1
21. Sorry -Justin Bieber 2@1
It should be also noted that there are no KPOP songs that made it to this year end chart compare to last year's 4 KPOP single.
JUSTIN BIEBER's "Sorry" spend its 2nd week at the top and closes the 2015 chart, it is also running for 2016's first #1 hit. JB did a great job this year, his non-numero uno single "What do you mean?" is the lowest peaking single [peak #7] in this yearend chart. It spent a 17 marvelous weeks inside the top 20 and still charting.
2015 in summary is a great year for PH music, (though not that great compare to 2013 & 2014) but I'm looking forward for another great music experience this 2016, off-course more authentic OPM songs. 2016 is my 6th year here on aTRL. Thank you for all the comments and discussions on my thread I really appreciate those. See yah on the next thread.
