What you said its probably why it'll be a limited release(doubt many people here will enjoy it). Hopefully it gets good buzz and reponse like It follows did and got a wider release afterwards.

Yep, I was lucky enough to catch it at Fantastic Fest last fall, and actually reviewed it as well (
http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/...itch-the-2015/). It is similar to those films in that it is very much centered on the drama than outright horror tactics. Actually, if approached as a very dark period drama, I think people might warm to it more. There are some really unsettling moments, awesome performances all around, and the whole last 15 minutes for me were just great enough to establish it as a really unique modern horror classic.
It will definitely continue to be a critical favorite that is very strong technically, but I think mainstream audiences -- especially those who are just casual horror fans -- will find it difficult to sit through the "slow" stuff to get to the more frightening moments (though there are some creepy moments early on). There is actually a similarly paced movie called
The Invitation that will come out this year as well that I feel the same about. I think both will suffer a little if people continue to hype them as being the "scariest films" of the year, but they are definitely two of the best that will come out in horror in 2016. I didn't find
It Follows or
The Babadook to be the "scariest" films around, but they were unique and extremely well-made, and that's what makes them ultimately great horror films for a lot of critics.
