MDNA drops to 13,765 in 4th week
Quote:
UPDATE: Madonna‘s tour is going to be fine, but her “MDNA” album sold 13,765 copies in its fourth week and finished at number 29, according to hitsdailydouble.com. Lionel Richie’s “Tuskegee” album, released the same day four weeks ago, sold 110,000 copies and was number 1. Lionel has outsold by Madonna by over 100,000 copies–and the number is growing.
Setting the record straight: indeed, Arthur Fogel of Live Nation tells Billboard Madonna has sold 1.4 million tickets in “North America and Europe.” My sources says 600,000 of those tickets were sold just in the United States. North America, according to Live Nation, includes Canada (but not Mexico, which they count as South America). So in Canada and Europe, Madonna looks like she sold 800,000 tickets. This is nothing to sneeze at. At an average of $300 a ticket, Fogel is correct and I was wrong–even though I was told otherwise. Live Nation has probably banked $214 million so far, as Fogel– a smart guy who’s an expert at these tours– tells Billboard. Tickets are still for sale most everywhere. On Ticketmaster last night it was still possible to buy 10 good seats in the 100 level for Madison Square Garden. But Live Nation has done its part. They’ve technically sold out the tour. Now tickets will go to secondary dealers, like Stub Hub. As the shows come up, it will be interesting to see what the re-sale value is of the tickets. But that’s not Live Nation’s business. “MDNA” has been a bust as an album, but the tour will go on and the fans will dance to the old songs. And that’s it, that’s all there is left to say about Madonna, her album, or tour. At least for now!
