Billboard uses "double counting" trick for Katy Perry
Billboard magazine has used a form of double counting to make Katy Perry's Last Friday Night go to number 1 on the Hot 100. It has counted different versions with different vocalists as the same version. The version that Billboard has as the new number 1 is "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry but included within the calculation is the version that also features Missy Elliot.
It's a sordid and, many would say, deceptive ploy on the part of Billboard magazine. Michael Jackson never would have taken part in these sordid tricks.
Perhaps this tells us that Billboard magazine has destroyed its credibility as a music publication. It also doesn't help Katy Perry, who will now be subjected to much more scrutiny - and ridicule.
Deceptive ploys have always taken place with Billboard, so their credibility is still the same. Just ask Mariah.
And I wouldn't be so sure Michael wouldn't have done it. He was one of the artists who used the repression tactic (see "You Are Not Alone") and his label was accused of payola during the Bad era.
Missy would have credited if she had contibuted for more that 50% of the sales. As she did only about 25% it doesnt make sense. Is it that hard to understand?
