With the reboot almost upon us, I felt this thread needed to be made.
Lara Croft is an international sex symbol, but with the reboot the sexiness and vixen image have been scrapped completely.
Plot
Quote:
Fresh from university and in search of lost relics, a 21-year-old Lara Croft journeys to an island off the coast of Japan aboard the Endurance, a salvage vessel helmed by Captain Conrad Roth. Before anchoring at bay, the ship is cloven in two by an unforeseen storm leaving Lara separated from any other survivors and washed ashore. She must endure both physical and emotional torture in order to survive the island.
Gameplay
Quote:
The game begins with Lara devoid of any weapons, tools or essentials such as food and water, which the player must search for in order to survive. Sections of the island are restricted to the player until Lara is able to perform specific physical abilities achieved via a "skill system", or obtained the necessary equipment to advance. At frequent base camps throughout the world, the player can combine pick-ups to create new items, improve Lara's abilities and/or fast travel to previously discovered base camps to avoid copious amounts of backtracking. There is a "much larger emphasis" on combat, as this game will employ a manual "free aim" mechanic, instead of using a lock-on aiming system akin to previous Tomb Raiders. Instead of her two Dual Pistols, she only has one pistol with limited ammo and a bow and arrow as her main weapon, although, Lara can pick up other items on the way of her adventure through the lost island off of the coast of Japan.
The game introduces a "survival instinct" that Lara can use to solve puzzles. It will highlight useful items for use if the player is stuck in solving a puzzle. However, Lara can only do this while standing still. Some elements of the world crumble when Lara stands on them for too long. When the player jumps to grab a ledge, Lara will no longer magnetize to the nearest ledge like before. The player will also be able to change direction in mid-air. Puzzles will also be more complex than previous games; they will use elements of fire, water, wind, and friction. Helping hands and UI will be kept to a minimum, except for indications of burnable objects, health items, and during quick time events.
Wiki, but it basically says the same thing in Game Informer.
The game has been delayed to 2013.

When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers.
The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.
We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait.
The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.
I'm a big TR fan! I never noticed this thread before (or maybe forgot about it).
This TR had me skeptical, i was excited at first but the Crossroads trailer (which isn't posted in the OP, btw) really turned me off for a bit, but this new trailer and the first hour preview (which shows the first hour of the game and contains spoilers, but gives you good perspective on what to expect).
Actually, December hosts a whole lot of media coverage of the game. There's screens, magazine coverage and other previews. IGN is dedicating a whole week of new coverage showing stealth, tombs and the first hour of gameplay like aforementioned. They're also exclusively revealing another new trailer on Friday 14th titled "Tools of Survival".
I love it, the rewards, the puzzle, the culture it seems to have. It was dark (in the entrance) and had me anxious encase anything jumped Lara whilst she was exploring.
BTW, it shows the first tomb/puzzle in the den from the E3 2011 demo, but after that it shows a brand new one.
I'm excited for the reboot. I wanted to play the old series but i could never get into them. Tryin to make Lara jump around and grab on to edges was the absolute worst
YAS!! I have every TR game, I love Lara so much she's my favorite game character ever!! I've been waiting for this ever since these small summaries started to leak on game website about this reboot.
