Shakira has been honored with a knighthood in France.
The most influential Latina performer picked up the prestigious medal yesterday (January 28) just hours before arriving at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, where she went home with the Award of Honor.
According to the Daily Mail, the award was given to her by French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand as her parents Nidia Ripoll and William Mebarak Chadid watched on.
Shakira is the second highest selling Female International artist this era, behind Adele.
