Target says it plans to discontinue all operations in Canada and has been granted protection from creditors, less than two years after opening to much fanfare.
In a release early Thursday, the U.S. retail chain said it will close all its locations in Canada. There are 133 stores across the country with about 17,600 employees.
The company launched in Canada in March of 2013, not quite two years ago.
But after high expectations, the chain failed to deliver right out of the gate as customers faced higher-than-expected prices, and empty shelves as the retailer had problems with its distribution chain.
No one I know uses the Target near us, anyway. The store is pretty much still in the liquidation state that Zellers left it in, just with different logos on the signs. I'll get my Target version of albums online.
Good. For those of you who don't know, before Target in Canada, we had "Zellers" which was basically Target & Wal Mart put together but even lower prices than Wal Mart. Now Target came in and everything is ridiculously overpriced.
I doubt this is true considering it would cost a **** load for all of this to go down but I hope.

It's true. The CEO emailed us this morning about it. Target has lost billions of dollars in Canada, they're trying to cut it off and move forward.

Zellers was the ****ing PITS. There was literally no reason to go there over walmart. The shelves were always empty.
I live like 5 minutes away from a Target store that opened 2 years ago and I've only been there once. I only go to Walmart even though the Target store is actually closer to me than the Walmart. Nobody I know uses Target and everybody says whenever they go there the shelves are empty.
I guess this is karma for all of the Zellers employees that they layed off
