The 10s have made absolutely no musical megastars. I do not even see any throne takers anywhere on the horizon. Artist development is dead. Everything is built to be viral and not last and other than a very very slim few no one can barely hold a pot to piss in as far as bringing star presence to the stage.

Even awars shows have to pull to the more seasoned and veterans like britney,beyonce, gaga,bruno,janet,jlo, madonna,drake (all in their 30s and up) etc to try and even bring in any excitement.

Either the industry will be in change and older artist will start to dominate and ageism halts or pop is in for a rude awakening in the next 5 years.

I can already feel that the 2020s will be the death of pop music.

Pop isn't over. We have more than you think, ya know.

That is definitely going to happen. Its inevitable at this point. I mean the music industry as we knew it is gone. the "pop star" or megastar concept is gone. Social media killed it. Streaming is the now which killed album sales.

I guess there will always be singers that will have their own fans and that will be good enough for them. Music and fandoms are so individualized and fragmented that a mega star will not be able to have universal appeal.

Ariana Grande is a megastar. Her arena tours sell nicely, her latest album is mostly at 1M WW, has 2 streaming hits and she currently has another smash with Side To Side. Not to mention the amount of hits under her belt despite coming out like 3 years ago!

I think there will be a brand new unknown popstar or superstar in the next decade. But other than that, I agree with you. None of these new or "newer" stars (other than Tinashe) have any of that "oomph".

tbh the only current ones that have at least a little bit of potential is Ariana (if she gets her **** right and attempts to serve us better 'Focus' teas and more confidence on stage) and Justin (he's started out just the same time as Bruno but still is so much more younger and has so much more to evolve to. And he NEEDS to stop playing with the vices and give us good performers, ****er can't even dance for at least 2 steps)

There is talent but let us be real. Nothing groundbreaking or universal. I suppose ariana is the only kinda big star I can think of but her formula is vanilla as hell, and her vocals still do not touch whitney,mariah or celine in their prime. Ifshe is supposed to be this generations "powerhouse vocalist" then I guess! At least xtina and jhud were able to hold somewhat of a candle. Sad times.

So far I think Ariana is the only one among her peers that could probably bring something good to the table. But she isn't quite there yet. Her sound isn't too varied just yet. But she definitely has the vocal chops.

I also quite agree it seems to be getting harder and harder for pop girls to become as big as they could be in the recent past. Streaming has screwed up the industry so much. Without pure sales to back up artists and the labels, only those who can actually perform and tour can rake in lots of money and receive support from their labels.
