So, I have to admit, I wasnt fully on the Ke$ha bandwagon when she first came out. I thought her voice was terrible, her lyrics were cheesy and her whole image was disposable. Yeah, EVERYONE loved Tik Tok for a certain amount of time. For a long period it was the "it song" everyone played it, everyone sung along to it. But it wasnt because it was good pop, it was because it was generic and catchy. As she began to progress and release more singles, I still wasnt sold. But then something hit me, in order to FULLY judge an artist, you've got to try and find out their FULL potential right?
I began searching Ke$ha on youtube, basically searching for videos of her before she took off and became famous. I was EXTREMLEY surprised at how good she sounded, and at some of the songs. They were very beautiful. The first video I watched was her singing "Karma Police" , and after that I was sold. And also, I'm forgetting to mention that Ke$ha can play SEVERAL instruments. The accordian, cowbells, whistles, wierd drums and percussion. She's very underrated. Especially here on ATRL. She's also a brilliant songwriter. Animal is was pop is supposed to be. "The Harold Song" is a beautiful mellow ballad, that many can relate to. Come on people.
In conclusion, Ke$ha is more talented than you think. She deserves to be respected and as much generic music she puts out, theres probably a dozen more beautiful pop songs that we can look foward to.
Duh. People based their opinions on her looks and singles. Kesha can actually sing and write beautiful songs. I love her version of this love by the Veronica's.

But those songs aren't released as singles. You can't blame the public for writing her off.

Talent comes in many forms, so in a way I would partially agree with the OP. She wouldn't be successful otherwise. But if we're talking conventional musical, vocal and classical talent, that's another story .
I'm really into Ke$ha again since last week. I wasn't really fond of Animal, but Cannibal is pop at its finest, I was blown away by the Metacritic score it got, 73. It's not fantastic, but higher than both 'Born This Way' and the 'The Fame'.
Blow, Cannibal (the song) and Your Love Is My Drug are my favorite Ke$ha songs.

well classical music wouldn't sell as well. You can't just write her off just because she puts out generic music. There is talent for that. If she started with classical and/or conventional music, she wouldn't even be known... just like almost everyone else in the industry besides I guess adele...
She has great talent. Her voice is good.. she plays many instruments, she writes her own songs and knows how to adjust them from generic pop hits to really emotional ballads to country. She is super versatile and thats one of the many overlooked talents she has

To me a strong talent is being able to write good pop songs. It's what has gotten madonna so far. That's as big and important as a talent like vocals and producing imo.
Of course she's talented. As much as people diss her, she does have singing ability and writes good pop music.
So what though? Sure she has some talent, but she's proven herself to be nothing that interesting and kind of a one-trick-pony.
But she isn't a one trick pony.. she has so much versatility. Plus she does so much for the community like charity and standing up for animal and gay rights. She is amazing... I don't see why she isn't interesting. I truely believe only haters would say that. And even then they do notice her since they hate her
