John Boyega, 23 - who plays lightsaber-wielding Finn - has appeared much smaller on the Chinese advertisement than the UK version.
The British actor and lead role in the sci-fi epic is placed under Han Solo and Princess Leia, as TIE fighters firing upon the Millennium Falcon take up the right side of the poster.
Other characters Chewbacca and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron are missing, while droid BB-8 is much larger in the Chinese version.
People took to Twitter to share their concerns, with one branding the move as 'horrific'.
One user wrote: 'They actually removed John Boyega from the Star Wars poster in China...this world man.'
Meanwhile, a message on Star Wars forum read: 'Every Asian poster for the film that I am aware of has decreased the size of Finn's image and or moved him further back into the background of the images of the posters.
It might just be nothing, a random reorganising of the poster.

They removed Chewbacca from the poster too. I don't think they had racist intentions. One of the comments on the article said it was to avoid copyright.
