Finally, some label confirmation on Beyoncé's next single (since Sony Music hasn't been too great with updating their street dates.) Her next single to receive video treatment is "Countdown" as confirmed by Complex Magazine and director for the video Adria Petty, who also directed Beyoncé's "Sweet Dreams" clip. Fans were thrown off when "Party" appeared in Sony Music Central's street release catalog for a late July release for Rhythmic and Urban radio, while "End of Time" dancer rehearsals were rumored to be taking place at the Millennium Dance Studio in North Hollywood, California. Now we've learned that Parkwood has decided to fund Beyoncé's "Countdown" for radio release and a video shoot. There are no words on a single release or video details, but we will surely keep you updated.
We were delighted to speak to Kelly Rowland on the phone this afternoon to discuss her sophisticated new album "Here I Am," and though our full Q&A with Ms. Kelly will come soon enough, we didn’t want to wait to pass on two fun tidbits she mentioned about her Destiny’s Child sister Beyonce’s upcoming “Party” video:
#1. The clip’s director? Beyoncé herself. The last time Bey was credited as director was for her “Ego” video (alongside Frank Gatson.)
#2. Rowland was spotted on the “Party” set, but she officially confirmed to us that she has a cameo during the trailer park-set fiesta. (That’s about as close to a Destiny’s Child reunion as we’re going to get for now.)
While “Party” (which features Kanye West and Andre 3000) seems intended as a blockbuster video, it’s been reported that the bubbly dance jam “Countdown” will be Bey’s official third single from "4." In addition, Complex reports that Adria Petty (who previously helmed “Sweet Dreams”) will be directing that song’s clip.
I think this is probably one of the more mainstream tracks on the album, so hopefully it'll do well! It took a little while for it to grow on me though, but I like it enough now. I still wish they would have tried I Care instead of 1+1 for the ballad single attempt.
