Bad Blood really sticks out on the album. There is a gulf between the quality of writing on it and the rest of the songs on the album. The lyrics are very general and not at all specific, something completely uncharacteristic of Taylor's writing. Even Shake it Off contained references specific to Taylor's life.
The song also relies heavily on tired metaphors and clichés, as well as 'profound' lyrics that are actually cheesy:
Quote:
Did you have to ruin, what was shining now it's all rusted
|
Quote:
Rub it in so deep, salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me
|
Quote:
Band-aids don’t fix bullet holes
You say sorry just for show
You live like that that you live with ghosts
|
and some excepts from PRISM:
Quote:
Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero
|
Quote:
Sometimes I wish my skin was a costume
That I could just unzip
And strip
|
Quote:
Was a phenomenon when you came along
Yeah, our chemistry was more than science
It was deafening, loud like lightning, it was striking
You couldn't deny it
|
The similarities are striking. There's no way this is just a coincidence
