Hey guys! Well, it's 2015 now so I guess now's a good time for me to start this thing back up.

In years past, my favorite songs have been "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse, "Feels Like We Always Go Backwards" by Tame Impala, "Monster" by Kanye West (and really, Nicki Minaj), "Wicked Games" by the Weeknd, MGMT's "Kids", "My Girls" by Animal Collective and last year's "Hold On, We're Going Home" from Drake.

Some of my favorite albums have been Kill For Love by Chromatics, w h o k i l l by tUnE-yArDs, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the self-titled albums from Fleet Foxes and Beyoncé, as well as Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillon.

"Desperado"

"I've been waiting for Azealia Banks," says Peter Rosenberg at the beginning of "Desperado," off her (finally!) released Broke With Expensive Taste. We've all been waiting for this moment. And no matter how ineloquent her Twitter meltdowns may be, Banks is still capable of achieving great things. Here's hoping that 2015 finds Banks making news for her music and not her hateful speech.

"Attak"

Rustie and Danny Brown team up again for another undeniable banger. One of the most energetic tracks of 2014, "Attak" is as aggressive as its title implies.

"Shame"

A truly cathartic listening experience, "Shame" and Mas Ysa wear their heart on their sleeve on this pummeling track.

"I'm Not Part of Me"

A song to make you feel 18 again, "I'm Not Part of Me" bottles up all the energy and conflicting emotions of a teenager and channels them into a pop-punk near masterpiece.

Vince Staples
"Blue Suede"

Vince Staples stole the show on last year's "Hive", delivering one of the year's greatest verses. This year saw the Odd Future-affiliated rapper strike out on his own, providing hope for this new generation of rap stars. As soon as "Blue Suede" begins, it's hard not to take notice.

"Black Ballerina"

Ariel Pink made his fair share of enemies in 2014 for his outspoken assertions regarding Madonna's work since her debut; but how can you stay mad at Pink when he releases tracks as fun and idiosyncratic as "Black Ballerina"? Like most other things he does, it's hard to take the song seriously, but isn't that the point?

"North Circular"

With its pulsating beat and soaring guitar riffs, "North Circular" should be a dance floor gem. But the lyrics are performed as a spoken-word poetry piece, with the narrator pining for a lost era. Few artists paired dance floor rhythms and nostalgia as wells North Circular. Well, few besides...

Röyksopp & Robyn
"Do It Again"

While Robyn cruelly makes us wait for a follow-up to her flawless Body Talk series, she teamed up with pals Röyksopp in 2014 to deliver some of the finest dance-pop of the year. The EP's worth of material is highlighted by the title-track, which cleverly flips the demands of an EDM audience into something heartbreaking and illogical. "We'll just do it again," Robyn sings with an air of melancholy. I'm not sure if I should dance or cry.

Tobias Jesso Jr.
"True Love"

A main reason this song sticks out in 2014 is its complete disregard for current musical trends. There's nothing hip or revolutionary about a singer-songwriter crooning lovesick piano ballads; yet there's something inherently beautiful about Tobias Jesso Jr.'s "True Love", which largely succeeds due to Jesso's sincere, honest performance.

"Pieces of Me"

The first slice of Mac DeMarco's 2014 album Salad Days released to the public, "Pieces of Me" was the first sign of DeMarco growing up before our very eyes. If we could all be so lucky to age as gracefully.
