Kacey Musgraves appeared on the fifth season of the USA Networks singing competition Nashville Star in 2007, where she placed seventh.

She signed with Mercury Records in 2012 and released her solo debut single "Merry Go 'Round". This will be included on her new album, Same Trailer Different Park, which will be produced by Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. She also wrote Miranda Lambert's 2013 single "Mama's Broken Heart".

Musgraves was nominated for four awards at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year.
