This is SO good
I wish she'd gone wild with ARTPOP. Of course, years after release, it's so much easier to say that. But I feel like the songs were all homogenised and watered down on the album.
'Fashion!' obviously once had a far more disco sounding groove, and now we know
'Mary Jane Holland' had a glam rock / metal vibe.
'Venus', which ended up a respectable pop/dance track, could have been taken in the direction of
very experimental pop - even tracing back to its jazz/funk roots. I feel there was such an opportunity there to put in some amazing production and have the album explode with creativity and passion. Instead, it feels somewhat as if she was reeled in - for example,
'Aura' feels stuck - for everytime it slips into psychedelic EDM, it feels like a leash pulls her back into pure-pop (that chorus!).
If Gaga has a period coming up where she settles down for a couple years and has a child or something, I'd love to see her quietly work on recreations of her previous discography.
I've said that previously.

I'm pretty sure it's real - the instrumental was lifted from a previous Madeon tape anyway, so they were writing over the same arrangement from the original demos to the final album version I believe.
