Body found in Washington confirmed to be missing actress
Quote:
A body found in Washington state on Thursday has been identified as missing actress Misty Upham, a family spokesperson told Variety.
The body of the 32-year-old “August: Osage County” actress had been found Thursday in a wooded area in the Seattle suburb of Auburn.
"So so sad to hear this news — all our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit," "Osage" co-star Meryl Streep said in a statement.
A purse that contained Upham's identification was found near the body, the Auburn Police Department posted on its Facebook page. Cops also say "it took nearly five hours" for them and rescue crews to recover the body.
However, the Auburn cops deserve little credit, family spokesperson Tracy Rector told Variety.
“We just want to make it clear that the Auburn police had nothing to do with looking for her or finding her,” she told the trade magazine. “It was friends and family that led the search and rescue teams that found Misty.”
Upham and her parents had recently moved to the Seattle area from Los Angeles. Her father was undergoing rehabilitation treatment in Washington after suffering a stroke.
Misty Upham had battled depression and other mental health issues, and had recently changed her medication, her father said last week. There was no initial signs of foul play, cops said.
She was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her role in “Frozen River" in 2008.
"Such a loss... so sad, so so sad," "Frozen River" co-star Melissa Leo told the Hollywood Reporter. "I hope to that her talent is remembered more than any troubles we surely will never understand. She was a smart, delightful actor, a spirit wild and hungry. I know I and others are honored to have had Misty in our lives."
