Hilary Duff has been hit with a lawsuit -- accused of crashing her Range Rover into another car back in 2010 and seriously injuring the other driver.
According to the lawsuit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Duff was cruisin' around L.A. on December 12, 2010 ... when she plowed into a car driven by Rachel Owens.
Owens claims she suffered "great mental, physical and nervous pain and suffering" ... and needed multiple doctors and surgeons to treat her unspecified conditions.
Owens also claims her injuries prevented her from going to work ... and although she doesn't state her career, Owens anticipates she will be "prevented from attending her usual occupation for a period of time in the future."
Owens is suing for unspecified damages

LOS ANGELES (CNS) A judge today urged both sides to settle a legal dispute in which actress Hilary Duff is being sued for nearly $375,000 for allegedly injuring another woman in a rear-end collision in West Hollywood in 2010.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Sanchez-Gordon directed attorneys for Duff and plaintiff Rachel Owens to meet and talk about the possibility of resolving the dispute. She scheduled a post-mediation status conference for March 26. The judge also set trial for April 22 in case no accord is reached.
Owens filed suit June 18. According to the complaint, she was on southbound Crescent Heights Boulevard waiting to turn left onto Willoughby Avenue on Dec. 12, 2010, when her vehicle was struck from behind by Duff’s SUV.
Owens maintains she suffered $350,000 in pain and suffering and $23,560 in medical damages.
Attorneys for the 25-year-old Duff stated in their court papers that the collision impact was minor.
