Maroon 5's 'Daylight' Dawns Atop Pop Songs


The group manages a feat that hadn't been achieved on the chart since 1994.

Maroon 5's "Daylight" rises 2-1 on Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart, extending the quintet's record for the most No. 1s (six) by a group in the chart's 20-year history. Among multi-member acts, Boyz II Men rank second with four No. 1s, followed by 3 Doors Down, Ace of Base, the Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt and Savage Garden (three each).

Among all acts, Maroon 5 ties Beyonce and Mariah Carey's six No. 1s apiece. The trio trails Katy Perry and Rihanna (nine each), P!nk (eight) and Lady Gaga and Britney Spears (seven each).

"Daylight" is the third No. 1 from Maroon 5's album Overexposed, following "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, and "One More Night." The set becomes just the second by a group to yield a trio of Pop Songs chart-toppers, following Ace of Base's The Sign in 1993-94 ("All That She Wants," the title cut and "Don't Turn Around").

This never felt like a number 1 but congrats I guess...

Radio is so worthless. They keep playing M5 songs on the back of previous success.
Both OMN and this are not even Top 10 worthy

But congrats I guess

At least it went #1 somewhere! This is my favorite and it's sad that it did not get similar success from Payphone / One More Night. Still, it's a nice hit!

Daylight has only spent one week in the Top 10 of The Hot 100
It's almost as bad as Give Your Heart A Break

I like Daylight more than the horrid OMN, but I agree, those two songs are definitely riding off previous successes

Daylight peaked at #7 and Give Your Heart A Break #16

In terms of The Hot 100 and Pop Radio stats being disproportionate to each other.

Give Your Heart A Break - 0 weeks in The Top 10
Daylight - 1 week in the Top 10

Most #1s on Pop radio usually have a good amount of time in the Hot 100 Top 10.

In fact all the #1s on Pop radio since last year have spent at least 11 weeks in The Hot 100 Top 10

And all of them peaked in the Top 3 except Blow Me which peaked at #5.
And even Blow Me spent more than one week in the Top 10 - it spent 11 weeks in The Top 10 actually

In other words, Daylight has become the lowest peaking Pop Radio #1 on The Hot 100 and the Pop Radio #1 with lowest number of weeks in the top 10 since last year, only doing marginally better than Give Your Heart A Break in terms of those stats lol

this song is horrible, radio will play anything that M5 puts out.

Kings of Pop

Regardless of Daylight and OMN riding of Payphone's success, this is very impressive, taking into consideration Pop radio is literally ruled by Rihanna, Katy, Britney, Gaga, P!nk, and Taylor Swift (all females).

I don't agree that "OMN" rode off "Payphone" success. It's a really fun, catchy song and the sales warrant its success. "Daylight" on the other hand is ****, has been a relatively weak seller so it's a bit more obvious that that is riding off the previous successes.

Even though Daylight is one of least favorite songs off Overexposed, congrats!

This song just snuck up out of no where.

This is probably my least favorite Maroon 5 single but congrats to them.
