Following Vh1's list of
The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time (and Ace Reject's successful thread,
The 100 Most Essential ATRLers of ALL TIME) earlier this year, I thought that it would only be appropriate for the pop music-obsessed members of ATRL to make their own tally. Now that I'm out of school on break and not busy with any Best of 2010 countdowns, I figured this would be the perfect time to launch such an endeavor.
The goal of
The 100 Most Essential Artists of ATRL is to catalogue exactly that: those musicians that have helped create the identity of the site and its many members. But in order to achieve this, I need your help. Please private message me a list of 10-20 artists who you believe are essential--to ATRL, to your tastes or to music in general. This is list is not just about "greatness," it's also about importance. Feel free to include anybody!
For all of the artists on your ballot, choose one song that you believe is their most essential track (whatever than means to you). And for your top 10
only, you can also write short testimonials about why believe each artist is so essential. If you do a good job, yours may be selected to appear during the countdown. Below is an example of what a ballot might look like:

This singer has one of the biggest stan bases on ATRL and they make it known. The site would not be the same without the attitude they bring to discussion in any thread.

One of my personal favorites. Artist B got me through a really rough period in my life and any time they have a new song, it shoots straight to the top of personal countdown.

3. Artist C
Back in 2008, everyone on ATRL was addicted to talking about each new update of this singer's personal scandal. It dominated the site all summer long!

4. Artist D
Though I hate Artist D and make it a point to drag them everywhere I possibly can, I realize that this makes ATRL so much more fun for me. And watching their latest era flop was an absolute delight.

5. Artist E
While they may not get a lot of recognition on the site, music would not be the same without Artist E. Sure, we all love contemporary pop music, but sometimes it's important to recognize the influences of our faves.

This is thread is where you can share your thoughts or campaign for certain artists. It will also be where the countdown takes place in the final weeks of the year.
