FINALE - Ragua's Best of 2008 - TOP 10 SINGLES OF 2008
So.. I just got unbanned (first post since the unban) and I have like 6 days to post my whole Best Of, so I better get started now. Welcome to
Ragua's Best of 2008
Greatest Albums of 2008
2008 was definitely a great year in music, especially the last three months. The whole year was filled with new music from great artists and from new amazing artists. I'm not much of an album listener, I prefer singles and tracks rather than the whole package, so I can't really make a top of which were the best albums of the year. I, however, did listen to a few albums completely and feel the urge to recommend them and post them as amazing albums of 2008. The best? I don't know, but they were the best ones I heard this year.
06. Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
Chris Martin's band sounds way too different from their previous works, which is nothing but great. The epic first single and standout track Violet Hill introduced us to a great album that, though not perfect, was really, really, good. It is still the most overrated album from the year, and "Viva la Vida" is the most overrated song of the year, but it's not bad and you should all give it a try.
05. Keane - Perfect Symmetry
Another band that switches it sound for this album. I find it amazing when bands are able to do it (change their sound), even if they don't succeed in this effort. Keane, however, brings one of the greatest albums of 2008, very underrated btw, with electronic influences in songs such as the standout track Spiralling, and some safe but good songs like The Lovers are Losing. And that french verse in Black Burning Heart kills me.
04. The Killers - Day & Age
It's not their best album. In fact, i'd say it is their worst. But it's still really good. I guess they anything wrong! The first half raises our hopes for a great album that fails to deliver in its last half. Losing Touch, Human, the standout track Spaceman and Joy Ride are the standout tracks that save this album from being bad, and are definitely worth the listening. A dissapointment, because Sam's Town set the bar too high for them, but objectively, not bad at all.
03. Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak
An absolutely new sound for Kanye, who amazes us with this touching album. I think the tracks work better separately than altogether in the album. I personally don't like Paranoid or Amazing as most of you do, I prefer tracks like Coldest Winter, See You In My Nightmares and the standout track Heartless.
02. Britney Spears - Circus
Pop perfection at its best. Britney delivers, and she delivers well in this full-of-easter-eggs album, with amazing club-bangers such as Shattered Glass, Kill the Lights, soon-to-become-signature songs such as Circus and the standout track Womanizer, a powerful ballad - Out from Under - and catchy choruses and lyrics from songs such as If U Seek Amy and playful Mmm Papi.
01. Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul
What is truly amazing about this album is that it produces many different emotions in the listener. This album made me discover Oasis, a band I knew but hadn't really got into. The album is full of amazing sounds from songs like The Turning, the raw, loud and noisy The Shock of the Lighting, and the instant-classic, standout-track slow psychedelic tune, I'm Outta Time.
Probably amazing albums
So, as I said I'm not much of an album person, but a singles/track one. However, I've loved the tracks/singles I've heard from these next albums so much that I'll surely listen to them entirely and I want to recommend them as well:
Duffy - Rockferry
This brand new british diva with an old classic sound brought in 2008 some quality music with her singles Mercy, Warwick Avenue and Stepping Stone. I recently heard Rain On Your Parade and I was glad to notice that the album has some up-tempo songs as well. A must-hear.
Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
The generals are one of the most underrated bands nowadays, but they are still able to release music whose quality is truly impressive. The first single Run, is nothing but a messy dance track that your body will enjoy dancing to. Going On is a song not to hear many times, but to enjoy in secret. And the heartbreaking Who's Gonna Save My Soul? shocks us with Cee-Lo's slightly raw voice, perfect for this kind of music.
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Time To Pretend, Electric Feel and The Youth established MGMT as the new alternative band of the year (sorry, Ting Tings). Catchy sounds, funny and smart lyrics and a groundbreaking look are the weapons that MGMT uses in order to be the one and only modern hippies.

"Time To Pretend, Electric Feel and The Youth established MGMT as the new alternative band of the year (sorry, Ting Tings)." YOU TELL 'EM!? Two of those songs are some of my favorites from the album!
I'd probably change around the order with the albums but all of those albums, for the most part ^_^

Great set, I love "New Soul", "Believe", "Early Winter" and "Stepping Stone".
And you should definitely check "Standing Next to Me". I see you have a great taste and you'll like it.
