Now up - some American Idol alumni and an R&B newcomer!
27. Carrie Underwood, "So Small"
What's new? Carrie's hot, her songs are hot, everything she touches is hot. Perhaps one of the best American Idol winners. (behind Kelly Clarkson, of course!) She returns with this lead single off of her hit album,
Carnival Ride, which has proven to be a huge success thus far. Carrie is a country queen and proves that she is here to stay (move over Shania! -- oops, did I push some button?
) Anyway, this vocal is one of the best female vocals of the year, next to Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and Alicia Keys' "No One" (hint, hint). "So Small" peaked at
#1 (2 times) on my countdown this year.
26. Daughtry, "Over You"
This is the second time Daughtry has appeared on the top 30, and we're not even to 25 yet.
This song is better than "It's Not Over," but not better than "Home," which we'll see much later.
"Over You" peaked at
#1 (3 times) and
retired on my countdown this year.
25. J. Holiday, "Bed"
This guy right here proves that crossover success is possible. This song was such a huge pop & R&B hit, and one with me as well. I'm so happy he sang this song because he did it justice. For shame had it gone to Chris Brown.
Don't get me wrong, I like my share of Chris Brown but his vocals on this...just no. I hope to hear more from J. Holiday in coming months and I hope he doesn't turn out to be a one-hit wonder.
"Bed" peaked at
#6 on my countdown this year.
