I would say the group was benefited from the fact they were in the peak of the digital era in Korea and abroad with YouTube, MelOn and other services that helped them get major exposure. Other important factor to be taken into consideration is LG and Samsung selling their smartphones and TVs, which showed SNSD's music videos, like hotcakes. The Koreans mastered not only the hard power, but also the soft power, something like the Japanese in the 90s with Nintendo selling video game consoles AND the games.

Itīs still a girlgroup. Out of the 100+ members they have, only 16 are the ones singing the singles and performing them, the rest are backups or theatre performers. Besides, the last of the original lineup left the group only a couple of months ago, itīs not like theyīre constantly coming and going. Besides, although it is true that they use gimmicks to sell CDs, they still sell millions digitally
