Beyoncé blatantly steals from Kelly Rowland?
Quote:
Is Beyonce's 'Grown Woman' Single a Rip-Off of Kelly Rowland's Original Song?
In Beyonce's latest Pepsi ad, which premiered April 4, the world listened to the first snippet of her new song, "Grown Woman."
With all the Beyonce buzz centered around the ad's six-second teaser, little attention was paid to the fact that fellow Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland already dropped a track called "Grown Woman" -- almost three years earlier!
Aside from sharing the same title, both Kelly and Beyonce's songs preach the same message: "I'm a big girl now."
Way back in 2010, Kelly crooned, "I'm such a grown ass woman / I dont got the time to play high school. / You need to get on my level / 'cuz right now you just look like a fool."
Bey's track definitely has a dancier vibe, but the unofficial leaked lyrics are strikingly similar to Kelly's, "But baby I'm a big girl now, so come do something / Told the world I would paint this town / But now bitches I run this."
Will the predecessor to Beyonce's "Grown Woman" affect the success of her single?
Not likely, considering Queen B's fans are already anticipating the full-length track. As of press time, Beyonce's Pepsi ad already has more than seven million hits.
In comparison, Kelly's Ne-Yo-penned "Grown Woman" was released as a single in 2010 and only peaked at number 51 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Only one question remains: "Et tu, Michelle Williams?"
