Lady Gaga's Hypocritical Image
There's always been a collective consensus on ATRL -- and in the general public, mind you -- that Lady Gaga has a strong tendency to be hypocritical. She's been criticized about it in the media and even from her peers in the industry. But there has never been an extensive separate discussion about Lady Gaga's image. Unfortunately, the hypocrisy of her image,
specifically, usually tends to be lumped in with Lady Gaga's other hypocrisies. With the release of the new photo above, allegedly claimed to be Gaga's first single cover from ARTPOP, it's important to put more focus on her image.
In this digital age, it's no secret that Photoshop is part of the business. Minimize the
appearance of scars, lose stray hairs, get rid of the bags under your eyes -- we get it.
| However, when an artist like Lady Gaga shouts from the rooftops, "Be proud of yourself! Love yourself! You were born this way!" uses Photoshop to change the shape of HER BODY, it's potentially a career-shattering move, but more importantly, it's most definitely a credibility-shattering move.
Her image as a woman, proud of who she is, proud of her body, is questionable and scrutinized. It's disappointing coming from a person who, not too long ago, attempted to "inspire bravery" by leading a "Body Revolution" when photos from a show in Amsterdam showed off a curvier Gaga. However, digitally changing the shape of your body seems anything but brave. When it comes to image, has Lady Gaga lost her credibility? Does Lady Gaga actually believe in what she says? Or is Lady Gaga contributing to unrealistic portrayals of female "beauty" in the media through use of Photoshop, in order to change her physical appearance? |
I am fascinated to know your thoughts.
Please, weigh in with your opinions on this specific matter.
