Is EDM music in mainstream pop still on its way out?
In early-mid 2012, we saw the dancepop trend begin to struggle when indie hits like We Are Young shot to #1 while dance and breakdown-based songs like Where Have You Been failed to make as much of a huge impact as they did in 2011.
However, in the end of the year, we've been seeing a bit more of dance come back into the mainstream. Songs like Die Young and Let Me Love You are becoming huge radio smashes and the pop girls are delving even deeper into EDM than they did with their past releases. This along with the rumors of Gaga and Katy working with the likes of Zedd and Madeon makes it apparent that the pop girls are trying to keep this dance trend alive.
That being said, do you think that the EDM and dancepop trend will be staying for a bit longer? Or will this push by the pop girls end up failing? Discuss.
I don't know, sistren. All of the pop girls are coming hard with the EDM hits and I doubt that the general public would drop them altogether. I think 2013 will have a big dance comeback.
I'm not here for trash songs like We Are Young. I want a reflection of the 90s where a lot of genres became hits, but I don't think dance is quite done dominating.
End of next year is its last. We have had EDM charting this year but it's not peaking as high as it would last year. Peaks will start lowering until indie takes over and Lana will dominate the year
