PETA Comes for SeaWorld and Macy's
Quote:
Last month, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment announced it would debut a float, called A Sea of Surprises, in the 87-year-old Macy's event on Nov. 28. The spectacle, comprised of sculptures of sea turtles, penguins, sharks and whales rolling on ocean waves, is intended as a tribute to the animal park's 50th anniversary in 2014.

PETA is petitioning for the float's removal from the two-mile-long holiday parade, and argues that SeaWorld engages in cruel treatment of marine animals for profit.
"SeaWorld has a long history of poor animal care," wrote Julia Gallucci, the group's senior corporate liaison, in a recent letter to Mr. Lundgren. She cited the documentary Blackfish as background information. So far, 53,000 have emailed Macy's for the float's elimination, according to PETA.

Macy's said their float was not meant to offend.
"Our newest float with SeaWorld is being included in the 2013 Parade line-up to illustrate the wonder of marine life in a manner that inspires millions to learn more about our oceans," said a Macy's spokesman. "While we understand that there may be differing views about this float, no other message or endorsement is intended."

PETA has been denied an advertising spot on NBC during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the ad, titled Grace, “you hear from one straightforward little girl as she tells it exactly like it is for turkeys who are killed for holiday meals when asked to say grace around her family's dinner table.”
NBC denied the spot claiming that the “commercial does not meet NBC Universal standards" after asking for and receiving additional information from PETA. The ad did not include any graphic images
